"Cute bra! I think my grandma has the same one." Fiona sniggered. She was one of Padgett's best friends and was the head cheerleader. Some would argue that she was an even bigger bitch than Padgett but she was just less subtle.

(Y/n) put on her gym shirt, ignoring Fiona's taunts. She bit back any urge to speak back, she had seen the short yet strong girl giving black eyes in the past and didn't want to be on the recieving end of any of her punches.

"God, some people don't know how to take a compliment, huh Padge?" Fiona laughed again along with some of the other girls in the locker room though they only did it out of obligation.

"Grow up, Fifi." Padgett rolled her eyes.

(Y/n) breathed out a slight sigh of relief that Padgett was at least helping her out.

She could hear the hushed conversation between the two girls and Padgett seemed to be discouraging Fiona's behaviour. What confused (Y/n) was the purpose that Padgett had for it, she clearly didn't like (Y/n) so why defend her?

Whatever the reason was, (Y/n) was glad for it.

In gym, the class was split up into two teams for dodgeball.

Padgett, her friend Orlando, Gianni and two guys from his group all ended up on the same team as (Y/n).

"Try not to blow it." Padgett elbowed her way past (Y/n) to get the to the ball.

(Y/n) rubbed her arm lightly from the force of the shove. She heard a soft chuckle from behind her and turned around.

"Don't mind Padgett, she always gets like this when her boyfriend doesn't put out." Orlando said with a smile.

"I heard that!" Padgett yelled back at him.

"R-Ronan said he and Padgett weren't having sex until she was eighteen." (Y/n) tilted her head to the side.

"You know Ronan? Oh wait- you're his sister, (Y/n) (L/n), right?" He pointed at her.

"Yeah... He and Padgett aren't doing that stuff because that's not legal." (Y/n) muttered, not wanting anyone around them to hear about Ronan's possible wrong doings.

"I wouldn't worry about it." Orlando shrugged. "Padgett's probably had more sex than him anyway."

"Stop making me out to be some sort of slut to my boyfriend's sister." Padgett cut into the conversation. "And quit talking, we're about to start." She shoved a ball into (Y/n)'s hands.

(Y/n) stumbled back but quickly regained her footing, she gave Orlando a quick smile and then got ready to begin.

The other team ended up winning the game. Gianni and his friends put in minimal effort and got out quite quickly. The rest of (Y/n)'s team, including (Y/n) started dropping quickly until only Padgett remained.

She was standing in the middle of the gym with around seven members of the other team left. Though no amount of fast paced dodging, jumping and chucking could save the game and once she was hit it was game over.

"You all suck." Padgett spat at her teammates, evoking a laugh out of Gianni.

With the game being ended quite quickly and their teacher having other stuff to do, he decided to allow the students some free time just to lark about in the gym until bell.

(Y/n) silently hoped the teacher would stay and give them something to do so she wasn't forced to either socialise or stand by the wall like the pariah she was. But alas, he left the teenagers to their own devices.

She scanned the room at the groups of chattering students that were forming, though her eyes only really settled on two. These were, of course, Padgett and Gianni's groups.

She partly wanted to go up to Padgett's because Orlando had been nice to her earlier but Fiona and Padgett sort of scared her so that was out.

She also wanted to speak to Gianni again, she couldn't help the fact that she still had some lingering feelings towards him however much she wished they'd be squashed. But her heart still longed to spend time with him.

The intimidation that he carried himself with warded her off though. She thought it would be best for her to take herself to the corner and just sit there until they were let loose into the locker rooms.

The route she took to the wall just so happened to pass Gianni and his fitness but she didn't think it would be an issue until she heard a loud wolf whistle coming from that direction.

"Damn," It was Chip, one of Gianni friends and undoubtedly the biggest douchebag in the entire school. "You know I never noticed till now that (Y/n) (L/n) is a solid nine out of ten." He spoke loudly and deliberately, making sure to catch the attention of the majority of the gym.

(Y/n) get blood rush to her cheeks, the devious smile on Chip's face let her know that he wasn't done and his follow up certainly wouldn't be a compliment.

"Too bad her personality brings her down to a three."

A round of 'ooh's swept over the students before all went quiet as if they expected her to say something.

"She deaf or something?" Arthur nudged Chip and chuckled.

Gianni narrowed his eyes at his friends, it wasn't like he liked (Y/n) but he had no reason to dislike her and his friends her acting needlessly malicious towards her just like Padgett was.

"She'll only speak of it's Gianni talking to her." Chip added. "She acts all quiet and shy but just wants him to fuck her over a desk."

The stares from the students were still burning into (Y/n) and she felt like she wanted the ground to open up and swallow her whole like she never had before.

Gianni glanced back at Chip and then to (Y/n). As much as he wanted to jump in and defend her, he had a reputation to uphold.

"Dude, you'd have to pay me." He joked, earning the laughter of his friends and peers.

The humiliation (Y/n) felt was maddening like where one wanted to throw up, she looked across and had everyone looking directly at her. The only person who didn't seem to be laughing was Orlando who looked at her with a hint of sympathy.

She stepped back a few times, the walls felt like they were closing in as she wondered what the fuck she had done to illicit this.

Not caring for rules and boundaries in that moment, she ran out of the gym and straight to the bathroom. She locked herself in a cubicle and sat on the toilet seat, placing her head firmly in her hands.

'Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry..' She repeated in her head over and over. With a combination of this and deep breathing she just about managed to keep her tears at bay.

Was it possible that the world was punishing her for having done... nothing?

Sure, she wasn't perfect but why the hell was she getting picked on by the likes of Padgett, Fiona and Chip. The power imbalance that just didn't seem fair.

It was Gianni's comment that sent her over the edge. Not even what he had said but the fact that he had said it.

When she spoke to him at the event he seemed so honest and like a genuinely kind person. The sort who would have been an upstanding person in that moment and would have leapt in at her side. Not that she even expected him to do that, the least who could have done was just... not join in.

Would that have been so hard?

Was she really that terrible that he just couldn't resist the opportunity to mock her and let her know just how awful she was.

Like it was some sort of crime to not to talk to people who never even made an effort to know her, who were either silent or cruel.
