The next day was a Sunday and (Y/n) thought that if she was going to the dance she should probably find a dress that was suitable for it.

She examined her wardrobe but nothing seemed to really be the sort of thing that would work in that type of environment.

(Y/n) decided it was for the best that she headed up to the mall to do a bit of dress shopping.

Carmen had to go to work on late notice because of an incident in the laboratory so she couldn't go with her.

She and Ronan still weren't really taking and he wasn't an ideal candidate to help her find a dress anyway.

Gianni was out of the question for the obvious reason that he was taking her to the dance.

Orlando wasn't a great idea since she didn't really want to get into what the hell had possessed him last night to kiss her like that.

So (Y/n) got out her phone and texted her only other friend: Tia.

(Y/n): If you're free today would you want to head up to the mall with me? I need to buy a dress but we can get lunch and stuff

Soon enough, (Y/n) could see Tia typing back.

Tia: I'm at Padgett's right now because Fiona and I stayed over last night. I can totally come but can they tag along too?

(Y/n) bit on her lip when she saw the message. Fiona wasn't too much of an issue but Padgett... Gianni wouldn't be happy if he knew she was spending even more time with Padgett. At this point the girl seemed pretty much unavoidable.

Despite all her concerns she ended up texting back:

(Y/n): Sounds great! Meet you by the entrance at 11?

Tia: Yay! We'll see you there.

She expelled some air and swore to herself that this would be the last time she intentionally saw Padgett.

(Y/n) then drifted over to get herself ready to go out. Gianni had been right about her lips, while some of the redness remained the swelling had pretty much gone down.

She knew that she should confront Orlando at some point about what happened there. Nobody had been drinking or taking anything else so it couldn't have been that. Maybe it was just a mistake and he truly didn't realise how harsh he was being and didn't feel her trying to pull away.

If that was the case then she pitied all the other girls he had kissed.

(Y/n)'s hands drifted over the dresses on the particular rack she was looking at, Tia stood by her side while Padgett and Fiona were looking at some other clothes that were nearby.

"I'm sorry about them." Tia said. "I was supposed to go out shopping in town with them today but I wanted to see you too."

"It's alright." (Y/n) lifted a dress that she liked and held it up to herself. "What do you think of this?"

"Cute. Are you doing matching outfits?"

(Y/n) shook her head frantically in protest. "That's way too cheesy."

"I think it's sweet." Tia cooed. "That's what Fiona and Malcom are doing, hence why she's only looking at the blue dresses."

"So Fiona's going." (Y/n) mused. "I'm guessing you're not unless you've been asked by a senior. Do you know if Padgett's going?"

"You're right, I'm not. As for Padgett, I'm pretty sure she's going stag but I guarantee she'll pick some guy up by the end of the night." Tia took out another dress for (Y/n). "This one?"

(Y/n) tilted her head to the side and stepped back to take a look at it. "Hmmm, I'm not sure. How much is it?"

Tia took a look at the price tag and immediately put it back. "You don't wanna know." She said in response to (Y/n)'s inquisitive expression.

(Y/n) hung up the dresses she'd picked up in the changing room while Padgett and Tia continued to help Fiona find a dress. She planned to get a second opinion if she needed one but for the moment she was fine just trying them on herself.

(Y/n) began to strip off the casual clothes she had been wearing until she was just in her socks and underwear.

Suddenly a harsh knock came on the side of her changing room and before (Y/n) could alert whoever it was that she was indecent, the curtain had been flung aside and there was another presence in the changing room.

"Pa-"

"Shut up!" Padgett whispered to (Y/n) who was using her hands to shield as much as she conceivably could.

They stood in the small space silently for a few moments. It took Padgett a second to register that (Y/n) was only in her undergarments, and it took her even longer to register that she was staring.

"What are you doing??" (Y/n) hissed.

Padgett only then realised that her eyes had been locked on (Y/n)'s chest area. "I, um, was that bra always that grey?" Padgett tried to feign disgust but in reality felt extremely flustered to the point of fainting.

"It's old!" (Y/n) defended. "Now can you tell me what you're doing just bursting in here?"

"Well, fuck me, I didn't know you were going to be half naked! You should have told me, I did knock!"

"You knocked and then didn't wait for an answer!" (Y/n) exclaimed.

"You were too slow." Padgett rolled her eyes. "Anyway, I had to speak to you in private to tell you that you shouldn't go to the dance with Gianni."

(Y/n) put her face in her hands. "Jesus Christ... Both of you are telling me to stay away form the other and it's actually getting so annoying. The only difference is that Gianni actually has a reason to keep me away from you."

"Get over it, I'm fucking delightful." Padgett dismissed anything negative anyone had to say about her. "Trust me. I dated him. You don't want to do this."

"Didn't you cheat on him?" (Y/n) queried.

"That has nothing to do with anything." Padgett snarled. "Do you not think it's weird that he wouldn't let you go to my house on your own?"

"It's because of you. Because you've punched me, kicked me and slapped me- because you're a fucking bitch!" (Y/n) began to get worked up, almost forgetting that she basically had no clothes on. "Sure, he can be controlling and overprotective but that's only because he knows what you're capable of and he's trying to prevent the same thing from happening."

Padgett held her breath. How easily she could expose him for what he'd done by breaking into (Y/n)'s room. But that was information she could never give up, only hold over him. If she did tell (Y/n), or anyone for that matter, Padgett was sure that his family would have her dead in minutes.

"I'm fucking warning you. You're seriously going to regret doing this."

"Please get out of my changing room." (Y/n) spoke more softly, coming down from her anger.

Padgett thought if there was anything else she could say to convince (Y/n) but it seemed that he already had her under his impression.

Defeated, she left.
