On the Monday of the next week the school had become a buzz. Everyone was discussing the upcoming senior dance that had been announced.

"What's the theme?" (Y/n) asked Gianni as he examined one of the posters hanging in the hall.

"Cupid's arrow." He read off the pink and red romance themed poster.

(Y/n) winced and shook her head. "I'm probably gonna skip it."

"Oh, come on, it could be fun." Gianni looked away from the poster to turn his attention to (Y/n). The idea of going to such a romantic environment with her filled him with joy.

"I don't go to the school dances, they're all so bad." She denied him.

"That's not the point, you go with your friends and have fun." Gianni tried to convince her.

"But a dance like this. It's all gonna be couples there."

He was tempted to ask her to go with him right then and there but that would be jumping the gun. He didn't even know if she was going yet.

"You have to go to at least one school dance before we graduate." Gianni took her hand in his and widened his eyes.

"Don't give me that look, we've got plenty of dances before the end of the year." (Y/n) laughed him off causing him to pout at her continuous denial.

They heard some commotion down the hall and paused their discussion to look at what it was. It was the first of many proposals to the dance.

The girl was nodding vigorously in response to the sign being held up by some boy's friends as he handed her some flowers.

"That's sweet." (Y/n) cooed. "But there's no point going to such a lovey dovey dance if you haven't got a date."

Gianni was inwardly screaming at himself to just fucking ask her but before he could even think twice Orlando had already approached (Y/n).

"You going to the dance?" He asked her to which she shook her head.

"I don't think so. Besides, aren't tickets thirty dollars or something? Way too overpriced."

"Why not?" It seemed that Orlando had completely missed Gianni's presence which was probably for the best judging by his infuriated expression.

"It's not the type of thing you'd go to with your friends, you know? I mean it's called the Cupid's arrow dance for god's sake." She answered.

"So, hypothetically if you got asked by someone to go as a date... you'd go?" Orlando followed up. Gianni could see from a mile away where he was going with this and was just praying to God that the bell would ring before he strangled the other boy right on the spot.

"Yeah, I guess." (Y/n) shrugged.

"Good to know." Orlando grinned at her.

Luckily, before he could say anything else the bell signifying that they had to get to class rang.

Gianni knew that by the end of the week he'd have to ask (Y/n) to that damned dance if he could build up the confidence within himself to do so.

What he didn't know was that (Y/n) had been thinking over her feelings for him. She felt the school girl crush she'd had before resurfacing but in a new way.

Before, she'd been enamoured with him because of his looks and charm but now she felt like she's really gotten to know him and she was back to liking him.

She wasn't an idiot, she had her suspicions that he had a thing for her but wasn't sure if the reason he wasn't pursuing her was because when didn't what to mess up their friendship.

Hell, she wasn't sure if she wanted to mess up their friendship.

"Are you asking (Y/n) to the dance?" Padgett questioned Gianni as they walked away from a class they shared.

He was insistent on ignoring her and just sped up and kept walking away from her.

"Hey, I'm talking to you." She hissed at him.

"I know, hence me trying to get away form you." Gianni responded.

"I need to talk to you about (Y/n)." Padgett elaborated.

Gianni stopped in his tracks in the middle of the hallway. "Spit it out then."

"Not here." She said.

"Why's that? Got something to hide?" Gianni was trying to coax a confession of cheating out of Padgett, he needed to hear it from her.

"No." She shot back. "But you do."

Padgett gripped into Gianni's wrist before he could protest any further and with a surprising amount of strength she dragged him to an empty classroom.

"You can't go to the dance with her, Gi." Padgett informed him.

Gianni grimaced upon hearing Padgett's old nickname for him. "And why's that?"

"Because you're fucking mental. That's why." She said angrily. "You should stay away from her."

"At this point, I can't tell if you still have a thing for me or if you have a thing for her." Gianni taunted.

"You're unbelievable. I don't like either of you, but (Y/n) doesn't deserve your creepy behaviour."

"My creepy behaviour." He scoffed. "What? Like how you kissed her twice?"

"First time was to shut her up and second time I was high." Padgett rattled off her excuses. "And at least I didn't break into her house."

Gianni's expression dropped. There was no way she could know about that.

"I heard you open the door, I was the only person awake but you didn't see me. I saw you go into her room and only God knows what you did to her in there-"

"I was protecting her from you." Gianni spat back at her.

"What the hell was I gonna do?"

"You could have hurt her... wouldn't have been the first time." He could feel himself getting more and more furious by the second, true love shouldn't be so difficult, he shouldn't have to deal with obstacles like Padgett Reyes.

"Stop trying to guilt me. It won't work." Padgett rolled her eyes. "I'm gonna level with you, I'm not going to tell her or her family about what you did because I don't really care that much."

"You care enough to bug me about it." Despite his snappy response, Gianni was relieved that Padgett was choosing not to tell the (L/n)s.

"I don't care about (Y/n). I care about you- not like that before you get any ideas." Padgett took a step towards him. "You're real fucked up, Gianni. I just wanted to make sure you knew that. Me trying to get (Y/n) out of your way isn't some declaration of love for either of you, it's just me trying to prevent you from killing her or something."

Gianni looked down at her. "You should leave."

She could see right through his exterior, she knew he was panicking and that she had gotten to him.

"Yeah, I probably should."
