Gianni woke up with a start. He quickly paused the annoying tone of his alarm. It was a Monday morning and normally this would fill him with nothing but dread but today was different.

He felt weirdly happy to be going to school. The day before had been painful to say the least, he had been without (Y/n) after all. With his feelings realised he was impatient to see the girl he loved again.

He jumped up out of bed happily and put more effort than usual into looking good that day. He had to look good if he wanted (Y/n) to fall for him the way he had for her... assuming she hadn't already.

He was unable to get a firm grasp on just how she felt for him but he intended to find out. Either way, he'd make her his. If she didn't already like him he could convince her to, and if she did then that certainly made his life easier.

He'd love her just the same in either scenario.

"Morning, Gianni." A woman in her mid thirties greeted Gianni when he entered the dining room, she had already laid out some breakfast for him.

"Hi, Michelle." He smiled back at her and sat down.

"Your dad won't be around for the next few days. He's very busy with business." She told him.

"I understand." Gianni nodded and took a bite of the fruit salad his au pair had made. "By the way, I'm going to leave a bit earlier today. I want to get an earlier bus."

"How come? I thought you took the bus with your friends." Michelle looked up from the spot on the table she was wiping down to address Gianni.

"That bus is just... really crowded. It's too loud." He obviously wouldn't reveal his true reasoning which was that he wanted to take the same bus as (Y/n).

"Well, then you'd better be quick." The woman shrugged.

"Will do. Thanks for breakfast." Gianni gulped down the rest of his breakfast and then rushed upstairs to grab his stuff so he could reach the bus stop in good time.

When Gianni stepped on the bus his first objective was to zero in on (Y/n). Lucky for him, she was sitting near the front. Even luckier for him, the seat next to her was empty.

Naturally, Gianni sat down in it.

"Hey, what are you doing on this bus?" (Y/n) was pleasantly surprised to see her friend sitting beside her.

"My usual one's too loud." He lied. "Where's Orlando? Don't you two normally sit together?" He didn't really care about the other boy and was pleased he wasn't there. He secretly hoped they'd fallen out though the chances of that happening were slim.

"It's Fiona's first day back and she wanted to make a 'grand entrance's in the Chevy her dad just gave her. She's taking Padgett, Orlando and Tia in too." (Y/n) explained. "Orlando was telling me last night how pissed Fiona was about Tia being introduced into their group."

"Y-you saw Orlando last night?" Anxiety rose in Gianni when she mentioned this, he didn't even take in anything else she said.

"We called each other. I had the worst come down and I had to see my dad so it was kind of a shitty day." She huffed.

"Oh... next time you have a shitty day, don't hesitate to speak to me about it." He felt simultaneously bad that (Y/n) had a tough time and jealous that she'd chosen to confide in Orlando over him.

"I wasn't really gonna speak to anyone about it but then he called me and I just ended up venting to him." (Y/n) told him.

"Right." Gianni smiled to himself, he shouldn't worry about Orlando so much, (Y/n) didn't see him as anything more than a friend and wouldn't in the future if Gianni had anything to say about it.

For the rest of that week, Gianni made sure to be next to (Y/n) on the bus to and from school. He tried to get as much intel into her life as possible.

Padgett seemed to have pulled back from (Y/n) with Fiona's return and pretty much ignored her whenever she was at her house.

Orlando was still being a pest but (Y/n) hadn't shown any hints of being into him.

The disappointed look on Orlando's face when he saw his usual spot on the bus being taken up by Gianni was worth all the money in the world.

They were on the bus to school on Friday when (Y/n) offhandedly mentioned a project she was doing in history.

"We've been put in pairs for it and I got out with Josef which, no offence, I was kind of dreading." She said to Gianni.

"None taken. My friends are awful." He chuckled.

"Well, we started talking more and he's actually pretty cool. We started texting and-" (Y/n) stopped her speech only to burst out into laughter. "Sorry, I was thinking about something he said yesterday."

A pit seemed to grow at the base of Gianni's stomach. He wasn't happy with this development.

"You know, after that I started talking to Chip and Arthur too. Your friends aren't as bad as they seem." She said with a smile. "It's great, right? Now I can hang out with you and your friends all together."

Gianni cursed himself for not catching onto this earlier.

"Yeah, really great."

"Josef! I need to talk to you."

Gianni had a free period that morning that overlapped with Josef's. He needed to squash this problem before the friendship between (Y/n) and his group of friends grew too much.

"Sure thing." Josef shut his locker. "What have you got to say?"

"Can we speak in private?" Gianni asked.

"Are we gonna make out or something?" Josef snickered. "Just tell me here."

"No. This is serious."

Josef looked over his shoulder. "You good?"

"No, that's why I need to speak to you." Gianni was growing short with his friend and his cluelessness.

They went to the guy's restroom, Josef sat up on the edge of a sink.

"What's going on with you?" He asked sincerely. "You've been acting off lately."

"Off? I- nevermind, that's not the point." Gianni dismissed the statement and went ahead with his reason for the meeting. "I understand that you're doing a project with (Y/n)."

"Yeah, she's actually pretty cool. I feel kinda bad for giving her a hard time." Josef rubbed the nape of his neck. "I don't have a thing for her if you were worried about that. We can all tell that you like her."

"I'm gonna need you to stay away from her. As soon as your project's over, you don't speak to her." Gianni said slowly so there was no chance of Josef misunderstanding.

"What?" Josef lowered himself off the sink.

"You heard me. Tell the others to stay away from her as well." He spoke without any emotion behind his tone, fearful that if he let anything peak through then the dam would break.

"No." Josef sounded weirded out. "You can't tell me to just... ignore her."

"That's what I just did."

"Is this some kind of joke?" Josef looked around nervously, hoping to see someone else burst out one of the cubicles and tell him it was all a prank. A very strange and not funny prank.

"I'm dead serious." Gianni had a few inches on Josef so by just taking a step closer to him, he could easily intimidate the other boy.

"What happens if I don't?"

The bell rung and Josef and Gianni exited the restroom.

Josef looked like a different person from when he entered. He wasn't physically different in any way, he just had a sense of fear glistening over his eyes from what he'd been told.

Gianni, on the other hand, was very satisfied with the outcome of his threats.
