It was Saturday morning and (Y/n) still hadn't spoken to Ronan since their sorry excuse of an interaction after his break up.

Even on Friday night he refused to eat the pizza they usually ordered together.

Carmen was still trying to bring them together and convince (Y/n) to try and say sorry but he thwarted her at each attempt.

He didn't want her apologies. He didn't want to make up. He just wanted to be alone.

But (Y/n) had a few hours before she needed to go to see Felix, or 'work'. She was determined to get through to him somehow.

(Y/n) knocked at his door. "I'm coming in, make yourself decent."

She opened it a few seconds later, giving time for Ronan to tell her if he was naked or something.

When she walked into the room she saw the absolute state it was in an scrunched up her face in disgust. It looked and smelled like an abandoned bomb site.

Ronan began to stir and grumble from beneath his thin blanket.

"Why don't we have fucking locks on our bedroom doors..." He groaned.

"We need to talk about what happened." (Y/n) said.

"What's there to talk about? My girlfriend kissed my loser sister. You know how that feels? I didn't even want to break up with her but I'd feel like a total pushover if I didn't." He said bitterly. "I was hoping she'd beg me to take her back but she just said some shit about it probably being for the best."

(Y/n) frowned at him. "I'm so sorry."

"I don't care that you kissed her." Ronan admitted. "I mean, I do, and that was why I was mad at first but I've kind of always known she'd cheat on me in one way or another... You were high and it sucks that it happened but... why didn't you tell me?"

(Y/n) bit down on her lip. She'd never seen her brother so sad and vulnerable. She couldn't exactly tell him the truth that their estranged father, his ex and his ex's ex had all told her to ignore it till it went away.

"I was stupid. I wanted you to be happy and I couldn't stomach just owning up to it." (Y/n) tried to explain her reasoning as truthfully as possible. "I really hope you can forgive me."

"Yeah... me too."

"So, they broke up."

"You should be celebrating!" Felix exclaimed happily, taking his cigar away from his lips and expelling the smoke right in (Y/n)'s face. She was sure her next dream would be of her choking to death as she coughed heavily.

"Ronan's really upset." Her lips downturned.

"He'll get over it." Felix dismissed it. "How's your shit at school going?"

She blinked at the sudden change of topic. "Don't you want to talk about Ronan a bit more?"

"Why should we? He's not here, why should I care?" Felix was genuinely lost on why he should care about his son's wellbeing.

"I mean... he is your son." (Y/n) mumbled.

"May as well not be, he's not tight like you and me. He doesn't come and visit me, he doesn't give a shit... why should I? Besides he's an adult, he can handle himself without daddy's help." The older man rattled off with a sideways smile.

"But he's your kid, unconditional love and all that." She said vaguely.

"Nothing is unconditional. Least of all love. The sooner you learn that the better." Felix said the bleak statement with the same crooked grin.

It wasn't an encouraging thing to hear from her own father, that was for sure.

"That's a bit cynical, don't you think?" She questioned.

"Mother nature is a cynical bitch. What can I say?"

She couldn't really argue with him on his values so she went back to what he'd asked her earlier.

"School's fine. There's a dance next week." (Y/n) mentioned.

"That's fun for you." He mused. "You bringing a boy? Or this girl you brother was dating?"

"You mean Padgett. And no, I'm not bringing her. I don't think I'm gonna go if I don't get asked. It's got a romantic theme and I'd feel really weird." She answered.

"Anyone you're hoping will ask?"

She wanted to say Gianni, she had a crush on him after all but things didn't seem to be heading in that direction. If she did say Gianni then she was certain she wouldn't leave the office alive.

"Not really." She tisked. "I'll let you know if I go the next time I see you."

"You should probably go." He deadpanned. "I'm getting bored of this."

"O-oh, okay." (Y/n) rose up from the chair. "I love you, dad."

"Yes, alright, dear."

Gianni waited in his car outside (Y/n)'s house to pick (Y/n) up for Padgett's brithday.

They had discussed it and thought it best not to tell Carmen and Ronan that she was going to Padgett's house so she used Gianni as an excuse.

He was frustrated that he had to go to this thing and be surrounded by Padgett and Orlando and their annoying friends.

Oh, the lengths he'd go to for (Y/n).

Soon enough, he saw her exit the front door and she got into the front seat.

"So, your mom believed you?" He asked.

"Nope. I ended up caving and telling her that I was going to Padgett's but she said as long as I get back at a reasonable time and don't drink or do any drugs then she's cool with it." (Y/n) said, she looked over to Gianni and saw that he had put more effort into his appreance than usual. She couldn't lie and say it didn't pay off. "You look nice."

Gianni spun his head around to hide the blush she had given him with her simple compliment. "Thanks, you do too." He told her

"We'd better get going." She said, taking a look at the time.

"God, do we really need to go to this?" Gianni muttered as he started up the car.

"You don't have to if you don't want to." (Y/n) reminded him. "She might not even let you in."

"I don't get why you want to."

"We don't need to stay for ages, just for an hour or something." (Y/n) said. "What did you get her?"

"Get her?" Gianni sounded confused.

"It's her birthday. I just got her a card with some cash." (Y/n) held up an envelope with Padgett's name written across it.

"I didn't bring her anything. I wasted enough money on that bitch while we were together." He scowled.

"Can you try to not hate her? Just for the party and then you can go back to wishing death upon her." (Y/n) asked sweetly.

"I can try but I make no promises."
