(Y/n) thanked any divine intervention that made it so neither Ronan nor Carmen were home because she wasn't quite sure how she was planning to explain why she was at home when school started an hour ago.

She washed the remaining makeup off her face and changed into some different clothes in a hurry as she got more and more late.

(Y/n) didn't eat anything for breakfast as she was sure she'd lost her appetite for life.

She quickly realised that all the school buses would have left by now and she'd have to take a public bus or walk, the aching in her legs urged her to take the former option.

The whole way to bus stop, her steps were uneven and unsure as her legs shook beneath her weight.

(Y/n) didn't bother going into her class as it was already half done and she'd just get into more trouble so she stayed in the bathroom for around twenty minutes.

She focused on trying to stabilise herself and think of what she was going to tell Gianni. She was almost sure that when he noticed her absence this morning the first thing he would've done was confront Tia who would expose her lie.

(Y/n) winced when thinking of what she was going to tell him, especially with how cold she'd acted yesterday. He was going to know that something was wrong.

It wasn't like she could tell him that her dad was selling her for sex and in return his life was being spared.

She just wished there was some way for him to know that she was doing this for him.

The bell rung and she let out a shaky breath, she should really talk to him.

Other girls began to file into the bathroom and (Y/n) took that as her cue to leave and seek Gianni out.

He was talking to someone by his locker but it didn't take long for (Y/n) to enter his peripheral vision. He quickly left the conversation and dashed up to (Y/n).

"Where were you?" He asked as he reached her.

"I slept in." She told him bluntly.

"Your brother said you were at Tia's. I spoke to Tia and she said that you weren't." Gianni continued to grill her.

"I told Ronan I was at Tia's because he couldn't know that I was spending the night at my dad's." (Y/n) lied.

"You spent the night at your dad's? Why? You don't even like him." Gianni wasn't going to just let this go, he valued this relationship more than anything and he wasn't going to let (Y/n) throw it away.

"Because... he's my dad and-" (Y/n) sniffed and wondered to herself if there was anything he could've said that wouldn't make her cry. Just thinking about Felix made her feel sick.

Gianni frowned softly when he saw (Y/n) getting upset. He embraced her tightly, an embrace she gladly returned.

All that was running through (Y/n)'s head was how she didn't deserve Gianni. She spent last night losing her virginity to some greasy old man. Deep down, she knew that it wasn't her fault but in black and white terms she felt like a cheater... just like Padgett.

"What happened, darling?" He asked her sweetly, stroking her strands of (h/c) hair. "Did something happen with your dad?"

"I..." She wanted to tell him so badly, more than anything. But she couldn't. "I don't want to talk about it."

As much as Gianni wanted to know what had been bothering (Y/n), he didn't want to push things. He was slightly relieved that it didn't seem to be anything to do with him.

From down the hallway, Padgett watched this interaction with narrowed eyes.

She didn't trust Gianni one bit.

Not one bit.

"Hey."

(Y/n)'s ears perked up as she walked towards the front of the school to catch her bus. She looked around to see the source of the voice that seemed to be calling for her.

"I'm here, idiot."

(Y/n) looked to the road where Padgett had stopped her car and was leaning out of her window.

"Get in, I'm gonna drive you home." Padgett unlocked the passenger side door and (Y/n) looked around again.

"Why...?"

"Because I want to. Get in." Padgett's stern tone didn't waver.

"I shouldn't." (Y/n) felt bad enough as it was in terms of Gianni and didn't want to do anything that would cause any further upset.

"What? Because your boyfriend doesn't like me? He doesn't control your actions, (Y/n)." A hint of desperation entered Padgett's eyes and (Y/n) caught onto it.

"You better take me straight home. No detours or nothing and if Gianni asks, you forced me to do this." (Y/n) said as she got in.

"Whatever you want, I don't care." Padgett stopped on the ignition and drove out of the school.

"So... why are you giving me a ride?" (Y/n) questioned.

"I'm gonna be straight with you: has Gianni done anything to you?"

(Y/n) groaned. "Are you and Orlando conspiring or something? Can you just mind your own business?"

"I'm so sorry for being worried about you when there's clearly something wrong." Padgett said sarcastically.

"I thought we weren't friends." (Y/n) pouted. "Why should you be worried?"

"We're not friends." Padgett didn't miss a beat. "But... forget it, it doesn't matter."

Padgett couldn't explain why she was doing this or why she even cared about what happened to (Y/n).

"I don't need your opinion on my relationship. Isn't that what you said about you and Ronan?" (Y/n) reminded her.

"Yeah, and look at us now." Padgett's eyes flicked between the road ahead and (Y/n).

She knew that if (Y/n) were her girlfriend she wouldn't make her as sad as Gianni did. No, she'd make (Y/n) feel happier than she'd ever been.

But unluckily, (Y/n) wasn't her girlfriend.

She was Gianni's.
