Gianni wasn't really watching the movie later that evening. He and (Y/n) were sat on the couch next to each other but not quite touching. The overwhelming temptation was to put his arm over her shoulders to initiate some intimacy between them but he restrianed himself.

He was also holding back from questioning her further about whether she loved him or not. How could she not know? To Gianni it was a very black and white thing, you either love someone or you don't so why did she not know?

"This is my favorite part." (Y/n) announced and leaned closer to the screen. Gianni smiled softly at her, things were much better than they were but he couldn't just brush aside what had happened.

It didn't help that Felix's words were still stuck on him. Felix said she'd never love him, (Y/n) said she'd never be happy. He wondered if she was truly happy in this moment or if this was just her putting up with him.

The scenes in the movie flicked past and both of them grew more and more tired. Eventually Gianni felt a soft weight on his shoulder and he saw that (Y/n) had fallen asleep.

He smiled a little as she looked very cute but he was a little upset that she hadn't consciously rested on him.

As much as he would've liked for them both to fall asleep together in that position he knew that that would leave them both with a terrible back ache in the morning.

Gianni gently shifted away from (Y/n) while keeping her upright and then swept her up to carry her.

She fit so perfectly in his arms. Why couldn't she see that they were made for each other?

He took her through to the bedroom and set her down, it was similar to when he'd first brought her out here. The day everything went to absolute shit.

Gianni squinted at her. He had such conflicting feelings about everything, he didn't regret taking her because she needed to be safe and needed to be with him but she was so unhappy.

If she didn't love him and was miserable then what was the point?

She'd be safe but her mentality would just fade away to nothingness, would she be still be herself by the time she loved him?

Not to mention all the times he'd messed up.

But his love for her always stopped him from letting her go, he felt ill with guilt to be the reason for her sadness.

Gianni wasn't so far gone to the point that he didn't know that he was crazy and the longer he kept this up, the worse this would get.

He brushed some hair away from (Y/n)'s face. "Sweet dreams, my love."

She stirred a little and let out a small snore, Gianni was in awe of how perfect she was and felt lucky that she was even in his presence.

After placing a delicate kiss to her cheek, Gianni went out to go sleep on the couch. He was sure he'd be up all night overthinking everything as he already was but he couldn't help it.

Things had gotten so complicated and he didn't know what to do anymore.

"I'm under your skin, right?" Felix sat across from Gianni.

"W-what?" Gianni looked around the office, trying to remember how he got there.

"(Y/n) doesn't love you~" Felix teased in a sing-song voice. "And she never will~"

"Shut up." Gianni put his hands over his ears to block out what Felix was saying but the seed had already taken root in his mind.

"Why would she want you when she could have me?" Orlando gloated from across the room.

Gianni narrowed his eyes at the other boy, not only because of the hatred he held for him but also because he didn't recall Orlando ever being there.

"Or me?" Padgett popped up beside him.

Now he knew this wasn't real. Even in death she managed to piss him off like no one else could, it was like her superpower.

"You're a fucking creep, Gi. You're nowhere near good enough for (Y/n)." Padgett scoffed down at him.

"You can't protect her." Felix stated matter of factly. "You didn't even notice when she was working for me!"

"I-I knew there was something wrong I just didn't want to pry!" Gianni desperately defended himself.

"You yelled at her, you hit her, you're taking away her freedom. What kind of a boyfriend does that?" Orlando challenged.

"I-"

"She's never going to love you. No one's ever going to love you and why should they? Give us one good reason anyone should ever love you." Padgett folded her arms and perched on the edge of the desk.

Gianni stammered over his words.

"Nothing?" She raised an eyebrow and cupped one of her ears with her hand. "Come on. I can't hear you, what makes you think you're good enough for her?"

"Everything you do makes her less and less happy." Orlando continued Padgett's point.

"I'm trying, okay!?" Gianni yelled out, there was a physical pain in his chest, he didn't want to feel this way. "I'm trying so hard!"

What was worse it that it was him thinking all of this.

He could debate himself all he liked but the doubts and the fears would never go away.

"Hey, wake up." (Y/n) nudged Gianni awake as she had seen him writhing around on the sofa.

"Huh... what?" Gianni came to and saw (Y/n) standing above him. "(Y/n)? You should be asleep, is there something wrong??" He asked in concern.

"I came out to get some water but you were having a nightmare." (Y/n) had been back and forth about waking him up, she didn't want him to misread anything which judging by the smile on his face he definitely was.

"Thank you for waking me." Gianni reached out to take (Y/n)'s hand carefully. "I was having a terrible dream." He muttered the last part and kissed her hand longingly.

(Y/n) felt a bit uncomfortable with the sudden affection so she tried to be low-key about pulling away. "Umm, right, I guess if you want to talk about it then we can."

"It's okay." Gianni was already thinking about this enough and he didn't want to receive (Y/n)'s two cents on it.

(Y/n) stood there awkwardly for a few more seconds, unable to conjure anything more to say to him. "Well, I'm just gonna get my water."

"Right, of course." Gianni felt the tension too, he had secretly hoped that maybe she wanted to watch him sleeping too and woke him up out of concern but it was much more likely that she only woke him becuase she's a genuinely kind person who would do the same for anyone.

She was just so special to him and he wanted to be special to her too.

He believed that one day she'd return his love.

But the demons in his head believed otherwise.
