14 - Dream Stalking / Neglect

Emily took a moment to process the bad news while the letter had already slipped through her fingertips and floated down to the floor.

Serena's condition had gotten much worse and she had been transferred from home rest to a hospital.

The doctors told her there was nothing they could do except ease her pain and treat her symptoms. She didn't have much time left.

Tears rolled down her cheek and met at her chin. Emily bit her lips mercilessly.

Serena must've been keeping the severity of her condition from her for a long time.

Emily bawled with disbelief and fright.

It wasn't fair.

Why my sister?

More than anything, she wanted Mike to hold her.

    But Emily remembered.

    He was busy comforting someone else at the moment.

Emily boiled with frustration.

You're making it hard for me to control you.

But I believe I've done my share of damage.

I've weakened you.

And your friends...

They've taken the lead in your stead.

More.

They've taken care of you.

Heck!

You've terrorized them!

I've made you pitiful.

That night they heard loud screams coming from Jayden's room.

The 5 rangers shot out of bed and rushed to his room.

Jayden was tossing and turning in agony.

"Relax Jayden." Antonio held up the light zord.

    Jayden didn't stop moving around and bumped against the headboard.

    "Calm down buddy! You're going to hurt yourself!" Antonio gripped onto Jayden's shoulders.

    Jayden then kangaroo kicked Antonio off of him. Emily and Mike caught Antonio so that he wouldn't hit the floor

He jumped up and was about to attack Antonio, but he dodged.

    "Hold him down!" Kevin brought out the swordfish zord.

    Mike and Emily both held him down.

Kevin and Antonio both used the power of their zords to ease the poison's effect on Jayden.

  
    The zord's power soothed Jayden's pain and lulled him to sleep.

    "This is the fourth time he threw a tantrum in the middle of the night!" Mike was sick of being woken up and quite irritable.

    "This is definitely getting out of hand." Kevin shook his head.

    "I'll stay here for the rest of the night." Antonio told the other rangers as they all left to go to their rooms.

    Antonio laid on the other side of Jayden's bed. He laid over the covers and stared straight at the ceiling.

    "I've been having nightmares too." Antonio said aloud to sleeping Jayden.

    He then looked over at Jayden, who's face looked distressed as he slept.

    "We'll kill that fucking Nighlok."

    "Emily, do you want to come to my room? You seem upset." Mike asked her as they were making their through the halls after Jayden's midnight tantrum.

    "Okay," Emily agreed and let Mike put an arm around her.

    The couple laid down on the bed.

Emily thought that Mike was going to ask her why she was upset, but once Mike hit the bed, he fell back asleep.

So there Emily laid, watching Mike snore while she was wide awake.

She couldn't stop thinking about Serena.

    She began to debate on whether she should wake up Mike and talk to him about it.

    Emily knew that Mike didn't like to be woken up, but this was really serious.

    So Emily decided to softly nudge Mike.

"Mike..." Emily nudged him softly.

"Em? I'm trying to sleep here, what do you need?" Mike sounded irritable and groggy.

"I'm sorry, it's nothing..." Emily was hurt.
