"Huh? Aren't you—?"

"That's right. Unfortunately, we don't have the time to be introducing ourselves..."

The brown-haired goddess who now went by the name Kaede was a hair's breadth from getting decapitated. Lucky for her, Mei Sakaki blitzed to the scene and interrupted Nekros as he drew the blade diagonally upwards.

Kaede stumbled forwards and recovered with a roadhouse kick that ended up in the palm of Nekros's hands. The Adversary attempted to counter-attack but was brought to a halt by a powerful stomp from Mei.

"I know exactly who you are."

Mei said as she swung at Nekros with the Death's Scythe. After every swing, Nekros's robe got replaced by a dark fog. Even so, Mei Sakaki continued swinging at the Adversary with a monotonous expression on her face.

As the world's strongest magician, Mei no longer received any adrenaline kicks from battle. Combat to her was nothing more than her 'duty'.

Mei nodded at Kaede, indicating that her chance to catch up with Horu had arrived.

Though averting her attention costed her dearly.

Nekros gained an window to counter Mei by vanishing completely from her sight, along with the Death's Scythe.

Wings sprouted from Mei's back as her purple hair fluttered in the air. She raised her left hand as air swirled on top. The swirling wind formed itself as an invisible sword only perceivable by her. She dashed towards Kaede with her wings and appeared in front of the goddess an instant later.

"Ehh?!"

"Duck!"

Mei yelled her only warning the same time she waved her sword directly at Kaede's head. Kaede's sharp senses as a goddess aided her in another possible decapitation. She slid across the ground, almost crashing against Mei's legs as an overwhelming shockwave smacked her from behind.

The shockwave was caused by a single motion of Mei's sword, reducing the entire street to ashes. Mei intended to blow the dark fog, that pursued Kaede, away and was successful; Nekros materialized a few feet away from the two, seemingly untouched.

"How vexing. How could a mere mortal hold me back like that?!"

Nekros roared as he brought his massive body to balance.

"Go! I sense a large amount of energy up north, it might be Horu!"

Mei informed Kaede without batting an eye at her. The brown-haired girl got a gist of why Mei Sakaki was the most known magician in the world. She gazed at the beautiful, expressionless face that contained every trait of beauty a woman could own.

"Y-yes!"

Kaede got up and dashed away. The particles of her golden aura continued to demolish the lives of every monster that touched them, and healed every human in her wake.

Mei confirmed if there weren't any other students in the area with Presence Detect, an Air magic skill that broadened the aura of the caster to detect other forms of life energy. After confirming that there were no students left to become collateral damage, Mei slightly ascended to the air.

Nekros accepted her challenge and ascended in the air as well. His aura was pitch black, like the rest of the Adversaries. The color of his aura had its purpose. Mei heard the screeching, screaming, yelling, and pleading of thousands of lost souls that Nekros had trapped in his shadow. She furrowed her brows in anger and clenched her fists in disgust.

"Does thou know the responsibilities and meaning of being a higher lifeform, mortal?"

Nekros asked Mei an unexpected question. His Cardinal Weapon dissolved as if it weren't there in the first place.
