Promise

chapter 18

Avery
It had been two weeks since I asked Elijah if I could go to school and alot had happened.  We visited the school a few days after he suggested it, at first I was nervous, walking around I made sure to stay close to Elijah but after visiting the libary that all changed.

Flashback
"And this is the libary" the head teacher said as he opened the door. The room was filled with tons of books, the thing I found most unique was that there was people in the libary, no one entered the libary at my old school but here it had at least 15 people in. "Beth can you come here please" the head teacher spoke. Oh crap. I cant be introduced to students they will hate me. The girl came over and she smiled at us "yeah dad..I mean sir" she replied, only then did I see the similarities both had the same eyes and hair. "Beth, this is Avery, she is considering moving here. I was hoping you could finish the tour with her, it might help having someone her own age, that's if it's ok with you both" the head teacher said. Elijah looked hesitant and so was I. I mean what if this girl turns out to be a bitch. " I'd love too, I'm sure we will be the best of friends" beth said, her tone was genuine and I could see that she meant no harm "ok" I quietly say and she grins widely. "Great, Just let me get my things, Nathan I'll meet you at lunch" she said, shouting the last bit at a boy who was sat at the table she had previously been sat at, the boy had messy hair and green eyes, he wore a hoodie and as he looked up from the book he was reading, I swear my cheeks turned red. I had to snap out if it, I couldnt let my guard down. "Maybe we can stop and watch the basketball training, the boys usually play skins vs shirts" beth said as she returned. "I dont think you will have time to stop and watch" Mr Mathews, the head teacher said. He was clearly displeased about the idea. "Right Mr West, if you follow me we can talk more about things, of course you will be both glad to know we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to bullying, anyone found bullying will automatically be expelled" Mr Mathews said which gave me a bit of comfort and it seemed to do the same for Elijah. "Great, if you need anything just message me, I'll be straight there" Elijah said to me and I nod "beth bring avery to my office when you're done" mr Mathews said and they both walked out.
After they left, Beth took me out of the libary and we began touring the rest of the building, we had a light conversation going. It turns out we both loved reading, I found out she was also on track,  I've always wanted to participate in extra curriculum but I was never allowed, maybe now I'll get the chance. We soon became fast friends and things were going well, I think I'll like it here, everyone she introduced me too seemed to be really friendly too. "Omg Babeeee you will never believe what happened to me" a guy said as he came towards us, he looked annoyed which scared me a little. "Jeez Alec, could you be any louder" beth said and pushed him a little. "Ooo who's this" alecs attention was now on me. "Oh this is Avery, shes my new friend,shes considering moving here" beth introduced.  Friend? I had never really had a friend before, it felt good to be considered one to someone. "You're gonna love it babe" alec said to me, I was confused, didnt he just call beth babe, I thought he was her girlfriend.  "Dont worry, alec calls everyone babe,  sometimes it can seem likes hes flirting with you but hes not, I promise" beth reassured me. "Shes right, sorry if i came off a little strong, I'm actually sorta in a relationship,  his name is Tom" he said and then I realized he was infact gay which I found cool. "Oh please, you can do so much better than Tom" beth said "but hes soooo cute" alec said. "Whatever, come on Avery we have almost done" she said and pulled me away. We finished the tour and she had begun ranting to me about Tom but I really didnt mind We soon arrived at mr. Mathews office "I'm sorry i talk to much, it's just good to have a friend who is a girl for once" she said and I smile "it's ok, I dont mind" I tell her and he smile grows "I really do hope you join, but if you dont we still can be friends" she tells me and I nod "I hope so" I tell her and she proceeds to give me her mobile number.

End of flashback

So that all happened two weeks ago and today was my 4th day at Westbridge High. I had become good friends with Beth, Nathan and Alec. It turned out that Alec was in the year above, he was 16, turning 17 soon and Nathan although he was in our year, he had just turned 16, whilst me and beth were still 15. I had yet to meet Tom, apparently he went to a different school.
As for elijah and me we had grown close, he  had told me two weeks ago that he had gotten custody of me for however long I want. Over the past few weeks I had noticed a few things about him, he was very strict,  but luckily not to the point that he scared me. All his rules, which he did add too all seemed acceptable for me, of course I had broken a few which at first I was terrified at what he might do but he was understanding, the rule was I had to eat everything on my plate, he had made this rule because I was still extremely skinny, yes my bones werent showing as much now but back then I practically looked like a skeleton.
