"Sorry about that, my dad doesn't like it when I hang up on him" I say as I close the door after walking back into the apartment. After talking with him in the elevator, I walked him down to the lobby where we said our goodbyes then came back. "Its ok" she replies quietly and I nod and get my dinner of the counter. I notice she had eaten quite a lot which I was pleased by. I decide not to mention what she had told me before as I didnt want to get angry again. "So I know my dad didnt say much to you but what did you think of him" I ask, I wanted her to like him, that would make things do much more easier. "He seems....ok" she answered but it seemed more like a question. "Actually you both seem alot alike" she continues and I couldnt help but chuckle a little  she was right, we were alot alike. "And how did you work that out" I ask, genuinely curious as to what she thought. "Well you kinda look similar, you definitely have a short temper and he looks to have one too" she explains, she was right my dad had a short temper, of course mine was worse.  "Yeah I'm sorry for getting angry earlier, just know that non of it is directed at you" I say hoping she already knew that. "I know" she whispers and I nod. We ate in a comfortable silence after that. Once finished I got up and did the dishes, before she could. "Can I help" she asks me, i want to say no but she gave me these eyes, something i couldnt say no too. "Fine, you can wipe down the surfaces" i say and hand her a cloth.

We had done and she looked tired. "How about you go get some sleep" I suggest knowing she needed sleep. "Ok" she replied, her eyes looked to be  closing any second. "I'll come check on you later" I tell her and she leaves to go to her room.
My phone rings as I go to sit down. I check the ID and its my dad....again.
I answer and before I can speak he begins talking "so I called Ed, he says he can get you custody of her as a birth parent, all he needs is the DNA test, her original birth certificate and a signature from you, he is gonna get all the paper work sorted on monday"
I couldnt help the big smile that appeared on my face when he told me this  "thanks so much dad" I say. "Of course son, I have to go, i was just calling to tell you the news. Your mother has her friends over and she wants me to join her" he says. "Good luck with that" I tell him and even though we arent in the same room, I can tell he isn't happy about spending time with my mums friends. He hangs up and I put my phone away and head to my office. I hadn't done any work today and I was behind so I started on that. Before Avery I worked 7 days a week, 17+hours a day. I was definitely a workaholic but now things were going to change. One of the reasons I surrounded myself in work was so I didnt have to come home, I always hated coming home to a empty house, especially when Sarah first took Avery, everytime i came home to the deadly silence I was reminded that she was gone, I would no longer hear her cries, I would never get to hear her running towards me as I enter after working all day. But now, now was different, and I was gonna make up for lost time.
