Eden PoV
I sat bolt upright. The sound of tyres crunching across the gravel driveway followed by a high pitch squeak of brakes shocked me into a slight panic.
Was this it? Were the Three fathers cronies outside the packhouse ready to attack us and drag me away from my mates kicking and screaming? My heart picked up speed, pounding against my ribcage like repeated harsh blows to the chest. My hands instinctively clutched my belly as if to protect the precious double cargo inside me. My babies kicked adding my palms as if to offer some sort of reassurance that they were safe. At least for now.
After awkwardly clambering out of bed I headed across the room and peaked out of the edge of the window in an attempt to now be seen. My stomach rolled and Nike threatened to escape from my throat as I craned my head slightly to get a better vantage point.
A huge exhale of air left my mouth that I hadn't even realised I'd been holding onto when I saw Caleb slam the driver door on his truck shut before he headed towards the house. I shoved Blake's black hoodie over my head and tiptoed out of the bedroom, my mates were still fast asleep as I carefully closed the door.
Caleb was already upstairs when I got there and it was overwhelmed by his scent. The moment a loud gasp left my lips his eyes widened in realisation.
"Sawyer marked you. Your scent has changed. I can smell him within your own one. I thought you two were shopping?" So many questions entered my mind all at once but all my eyes could focus on was the angry, red very fresh mate mark that sat upon Caleb's neck.
"Shit. This wasn't the way we wanted to tell you. Sawyer will kick my ass. But do you honestly believe your brother would leave it until your birthday to go get you a gift? The truth is he had it sorted out weeks ago. He'd never leave anything that important to the last minute. You're the most important person in his life" Caleb ran his hands over his face before he spoke. This might not be how they'd intended on telling me but from the twinkle in his eyes I could tell how happy he was.
I couldn't help but smile at that. "That's not true. You are just as important to him! I'm really happy for you both. It's amazing!" My face hurt because I was smiling so much.
"What's amazing?" A deep voice rumbled from behind me. Jace.
"Happy for who? Holy fuck, what the hell happened to your neck Cal?" Blake asked in a panic, moving past me to get a closer look at his younger brothers neck.
"That's a wolf bite! Did you get attacked?" Jace frowned as he took a few steps forward until he was right next to me. He took my hand in his and squeezed it tightly, he clearly thought this had something to do with our psycho fathers.
"It's... I'm... fuck..." Caleb stuttered out random words before he gazed right at me as if he was pleading for help.
"Caleb, just tell them. It will be okay I promise" As I spoke I grabbed Blake's hand and pulled his back a few paces so Caleb had some space to breath and collect himself.
"What the fuck is going on?" Blake's eyes darted between me and Caleb as a deep worry line creased his forehead.
"Just let him talk okay?" I implored him with a soft smile and gripped his hand a bit tighter for comfort. 'He is frightened Blake. Just let him speak and be his big brother' I added via our mindlink.
"I found my mate. It happened a while ago but it's complicated so we took it slow and just wanted to get to know each other better without all the other stuff screwing it up" Caleb exclaimed peering into his brothers eyes for any sign of negativity.
But I knew he'd find nothing. Blake would never behave like that but I understood why Caleb was concerned anyway. He was right, things were super complicated.
