We finally had The Three Fathers exactly where we wanted them: bloody, bruised and bound. The only downside to that was that I was also covered by my own dried blood and dark purple bruises littered my face and body. My ribs hurt with every breath I took but I refused to let it show to anyone.

I'd spent most of my life hiding from these people, I had to behave like a meek and mild little human girl who didn't belong in the supernatural world. I always had to be weak and wolfless. Nobody could know my secrets. My brothers and I had been out through hell, we had lived under the fearful rule of these monsters for far too long and that ended today.

Jace was busy with his father and every bit of anger he felt towards him has started to tumble out of him like a small tornado that built in size with every second that passed.

Blake took a much more passive role, for now at least. He took in every piece of information that was revealed and processed in full before he acted. His anger simmered away slowly until it reached its boiling point.

Once that happened I was unsure whether anyone could hold him back. There was nothing and nobody that had ever been able to rein in the monster once he'd been unleashed.

Blake didn't talk about his past much. He actively tried to prevent me from discovering his history but he'd become distracted by the Three Fathers and I'd used it as the perfect opportunity to work out why he had gone to such extreme measures to hide it from me.

In World War 2 he and his brothers had travelled the world as enlisted soldiers. They fought for the winning side and the cause was completely justified. However there were reports of opposition soldiers being butchered by beings that moved so fast they were nothing but a brief shadow that tore men apart and left them void of their blood.

The victims had been exsanguinated.

These weren't battle related either but these bloodless corpses appeared in the local villages the soldiers travelled through and also there was a time where guards found a huge pile of bodies that were completely empty of blood and some organs, the bodies had been dumped outside the enemy base. There were never any witnesses and no trace of the culprits was ever found.

There were similar reports during World war one as well as sporadic incidents throughout Europe. The dates all matched up with when Blake and his family were in the area.

Stories like that seemed to abruptly end a few years before Jace's mum died and the Silverhaven pack burnt down. That was when Blake and his siblings had appeared out of nowhere and rescued Jace, his siblings and several other people from the Silverhaven pack. Acts like that had become a new story and it was clear that the Novak family were desperately trying to make up for the path of death and destruction they'd laid in the past.

But until Gerard Novak was dead and gone they would never be able to achieve true redemption. In a similar way until our fathers were dead and buried Jace, Hayden and Nat as well as myself, Cole and Sawyer could never really find a peaceful life. The three menaces were a threat that constantly hung over our heads and that threat needed to be eradicated as soon as possible.

Most of the time predators enjoyed the chase. They got off on scaring the absolute shit out of their prey and taunting it with a small glimmer of hope that they could escape their foe. But a predator always knew that there was no escape for the prey. That was all part of the game and it added adrenaline to the predators already stronger and faster body. But for us the chase was over with. We'd hidden so much from them.

We'd let them believe they were in control of us all like chess pieces upon a board. We allowed them to truly believe that they were the predators and we were the weak prey, but all along we'd been the ones controlling the game.
