To be an alpha, a successful, well respected one at least, you needed certain qualities that made you stand out from other wolves. Things like the ability to remain calm in a crisis. To keep your wits about you, not lose your shit when things were bad and behave in a concise, collected manner. In order to do those things you had to stay in complete control of everything and everyone around you.
You had to survey the situation, assess the threat and act upon that information whilst controlling your pack, the scenario you faced and most of all control yourself.
Control your emotions and reactions to things because if you lost control, you wouldn't act in a calm and collected way.
That's when everything went to complete and utter shit. I'd seen it time and time again with other alphas.
Some ruled solely with their ego and held themselves in such a high place that they didn't even know the names of their pack members let alone have any type of relationship or bond with them.
Other alphas were reckless and thrived on danger so much that they led their packs into battles blinded by adrenaline and rage which usually ended in tragedy.
Those kinds of alphas never had the respect of their pack or any other pack for that matter and they just fell apart due to the lack of a kinship between them.
I'd always prided myself on my ability to remain in control and act in a calm and collected fashion whatever I was faced with. So I was both horrified and freed as my hands gripped tightly around Cole's throat. He was equally as strong as me, most likely even stronger if he was anything like his sister but he did nothing but stare into my eyes as my own rage burnt brightly. My blood boiled with a potent mixture of anger and fear.
"Tell your doctor to help Eden right this fucking second or I swear to the goddess I will rip your throat out and shove it up your ass" I snarled out, far too furious and frightened to care how my threat sounded.
"That's exactly what I'm about to do. I suggest you let Cole go because your mate asked him to explain things to you both" Beckett, in his credit, remained completely calm as he prepared medical tools and various vials and needles up his metal table.
"Amara, could you scrub your hands and then put some gloves on so you are able to assist me?" The doctor focused upon the witch and gestured to a box of blue gloves that sat beside a sink behind him.
"Of course, no problem doctor" Amara fooled her eyes in disappointment at my behaviour before she focused on what Beckett requested.
"Jace, look at her man, this isn't the time for anger. Neither of us seem to have a clue what's going on so if they can help Eden and explain it to us, I say that's the right call. For now" Blake warily placed his hands over mine and eased my grip on Cole's throat, but his words held a very clear threat of violence if things went south.
It was strange to think about how our relationship had evolved over the last few months from enemies to him being the one person, other than Eden, that was my voice of reason when I was lost in my emotions.
But he was right. If they knew more about what was going on I wanted to hear it before I made my next move. Whether that be murder or something else I wasn't completely certain of yet.
Once my hands were away from Cole, Blake let go of them and I scrubbed one hand over my face and exhaled several deep breaths as I tried to regain some semblance of my self composure.
"Start talking Quinn" Blake demanded and narrowed his eyes upon Eden's brother and the only person that could tell us what on earth was going on.
"Let's give them some space for a few minutes okay?" Cole ignored my actions and led us into a nearby room that had two big black fabric sofas, a dark wood coffee table and a large wall mounted tv that had purple LED lighting surrounding it. The purple hues reminded me of Edens eyes and my heart ached with realisation of how angry, hurt and disappointed she'd be with me when she found out what I'd done to her brother. "Cole, I'm sorry I lost my shit and I shouldn't have behaved that way. I just don't know what the fuck is happening and I hate feeling so-"
