Everybody Knows - Sigrid

*Bucky POV*

When I get to the hospital I run straight to the front desk.

Bucky
"I'm looking for Y/f+l/n, she was brought in not long ago?"

The receptionist starts typing away on the computer.

Receptionist
"Are you her emergency contact?"

I know that he'll say I can't stay but I don't care.

Bucky
"No, I'm just a friend."

The receptionist looked apologetic and tilted his head as he spoke.

Receptionist
"I'm sorry but I can't disclose anything else unless you're family or her emergency contact. Once someone arrives, it's up to them what I can tell you. You're welcome to wait if you like?"

I stepped away from the desk as he spoke. I had the urge to kick something but it didn't exactly seem appropriate. I found a seat next to the entrance and waited. Just waited. It felt like an eternity.

Panic Room - Au/Ra

Finally, after what was probably only half an hour, a dark haired woman in sweats and sneakers runs through the sliding doors and up to the desk.

Alice
"Hi, I got a call for Y/f+l/n? My name is Alice Woodstal."

I walk up to her, slightly timid as not to add to her panic.

Bucky
"Hi, sorry, I'm Bucky. I'm a friend of Y/n's."

Why do I keep saying friend? I was criticising her for saying that, not even 2 hours ago.
I'm half expecting her to know who I am and not tell me anything. Or slap me.

Alice
"You're the guy she met in Bucharest? What are you doing here??"

Okay. So she didn't mention that I almost killed her.

Bucky
"I, uhhh... I was with her when it happened-"

Before I can finish, Alice is called over by a doctor. I follow, hoping that she'll let me listen.

Doctor
"Okay, so she's lost a lot of blood, but she's out of surgery."

I'm not being told to leave so I continue to stand in the triangle, listening.

Doctor
"We've repaired the tissue in her abdomen as best as we can so that should heal with time. What we're most concerned about is her head injury."

For a second I'm confused, but then I remember the blood after she was dropped by the flag-smasher.

Doctor
"We're assuming she experienced some head trauma which led to a severe concussion. Were either of you with her at the time?"

I jumped at the chance to be useful after all this time being able to do nothing.

Bucky
"I was."

Doctor
"Was there anything strange about her speech or concentration? Was she walking funny?"

I tried to think back to the argument, this time focussing on her, rather than the words. Now that I think about it, she seemed... off. Her feet dragged between steps. Her words were slurred in places. At the time I passed it off as shock from being in a stressful situation.

Bucky
"Uh Yh, Yh I think so."

The doctor furrowed her brow and took a breath.

Nurse
"She will recover. But I'm afraid it's impossible to say when she'll wake up. It could be tomorrow, a week..."

She doesn't need to say anymore. Alice and I look at one another, knowing we could be in this for the long haul.
