Leave a Light On - Tom WalkerYou did as you said you would and called Fury the next morning. You thought it would be a much longer conversation about when your training would be and so forth, but instead he just told you he'd 'be in touch'. You have no intention of giving up your business, so Fury will just have to work around your appointments.
A couple of days go by and you hear nothing. No calls, no emails, not even a one line text telling you what you're supposed to do next. Three days pass, and finally, you leave the apartment, intending to go to the gym, but you're met face to face with Hill instead.
Y/n
"Hill, what are you doing here?"Hill
"We're here to take you to your first day of basic training. If you'd like to join me in the car."Doing as she says, you move past her and cross the seats to be on the far end of the car, leaving room for hill to sit down next to you. She's not dressed in her usual plain, black, formal wear that you've only seen her in before. Today she's dressed head to toe in black still, but the clothes seem to be more flexible. Like fancy workout clothes. Once the car is moving, an awkward silence befalls everyone. Hill doesn't turn her attention away from the tablet in her hand and the two men in the front seat barely look at anything other than the road.
Y/n
"So do I actually get to know what I'm doing today?"Hill
"You'll find out once we reach the facility."Y/n
"The same facility as before?"Still not looking at you, Hill gives a small nod of her head with a hum of recognition.
The rest of the ride is silent. When you finally arrive at the familiar building, the car drops you and hill at an entrance you've never seen before. It's much more advanced than the one you and Bucky used to leave just over a month ago. You follow closely as Hill takes you in the state of the art elevator, only climbing a few floors before stopping at one of the familiar gyms.Y/n
"Really? This is it?"Hill
"You should never judge a book by its cover, y/n."Pressing a code into a key pad on the wall, the illusion of a regular gym space falls away, revealing several weapons stations and a large dojo mat.
Hill
"Next door there is a target range, you can use it for anything. There's also a training sim room down the hall, but I suggest you wait a while before using that."Y/n
"That's all great, but you said I was here for training? By who? I can't teach myself stuff I don't know."Gesturing you to follow, Hill moves back to the hallway and towards another room. Opening the door, you're greeted by a room full of people. Around 10 men and women in straight lines on a mat, facing 3 or four others who look much more stoic and serious. You can't quite see them past the sea of what you guess are other trainees.

Hill
"Sorry to intrude, this is Y/f/n. She'll be joining you from now on."When everyone turns to face you, not one smile greets you. Except one.
Bucky
"Of course not. Fall in, and we'll continue."Confused as hell, you join the front row of recruits to face Bucky and the other (what you now guess are) trainers. The contrast between everyone else's dark attire, and your teal top and grey leggings just shows how much you don't belong.
Bucky
"As I was saying. You're here because you have potential. Not all of you are going to make it to the end of this program, but it's my job to pick out the ones who have what it takes. If you don't think that's you, then you have my blessing to leave right now."You look around as the other recruits don't move a muscle. Returning to face the front, Bucky gives a small nod before swapping places with the man to his left.
MT
"Okay. Our first session will be in the dojo in 10. Until then, you're dismissed."Some people around you salute before forming small groups of chatter. Obviously military trained already.
Bucky
"Miss y/l/n, may I speak with you outside please?"Not leaving his eye contact, you walk past as he holds the door open for you. Once the door clicks closed, you spare no time before back handing him across the shoulder.
Bucky
"Ow! What was that for??"Y/n
"Miss y/l/n? What the hell are you doing here??"Bucky
"Fury offered me a job bringing up new recruits. It was supposed to be a surprise, which now I realise probably wasn't the best idea."Massaging the area where you hit his shoulder, Bucky continues to explain himself.
Bucky
"And I didn't think it would go down well with your peers if they found out you were sleeping with your teacher."You laugh a little as you relax your crossed arms.
Y/n
"Maybe try committed relationship. Okay, fine. But no treating me differently."Bucky
"Wouldn't dream of it."Pushing the door open again, you and Bucky walk in separate directions to continue the illusion of strangers.
Almost immediately, you're approached by a man and woman with whom you were lined up with.
Woman
"Hi! You're y/n, right? I'm Rose, this is Chris."Chris
"Nice to meet you."Y/n
"Nice to meet you too."You shake hands with both of them, obviously the most timid out of the three.
Rose
"So what are you? Army, Airforce? Marine?? Chris and I were Navy Seals together."Y/n
"Uh no, I'm a photographer actually."Chris
"Huh. I thought we were all vets. How come they picked you up then?"Y/n
"I'm not sure I'm allowed to talk about it, to be honest."You give a nervous chuckle, before you're interrupted by the female trainer clearing her throat.
FT
"Today will consist of basic tests to assess your current level. You will show your skills in hand to hand combat, weapons knowledge and accuracy, and a specialised skill of your choosing."You look at Bucky briefly with a worried look. Surveillance and combat you've covered. But you've never touched a gun.
FT
"If you'd like to follow me to the first assessment."Swallowing hard, you follow the crowd into a single file line as you walk to the first room you entered with Hill.
