HAPPINESS - NEEDTOBREATHEFinally. After 2 months, you're going home. You've barely got any belongings at the facility as a rule. You didn't want to get too comfortable in case it made you less determined to leave, so everything fits into one small suitcase. There were lots more tests after the simple ones. Mostly medical; people poking and prodding you with needles and electrodes. After they still came up with nothing, Bucky contacted Hill to ask if it was safe for you to get back to normal life. Or as close as possible. She was reluctant but after your pushing, she agreed. You and Bucky expect that you'll be closely watched for a while, by a lot of people, but you know you have nothing to hide.
You're practically ready to sprint out the door by the time Bucky arrives to collect you. You couldn't even wait in your room because you were so eager to leave, so ended up getting as close to the exit as your security clearance would take you. Hill was coming with Bucky to confirm your discharge, hence why you weren't allowed past the medical floor. You'd seen a number of different floors since you'd been there but the security was warned today that you were leaving, and weren't allowed access unless accompanied by Hill. It all seems a bit babysitter-ish, but if it means your freedom, you go with it.You're sitting in a chair next to the reception desk on the medical floor, bouncing your knee every quarter of a second. You watch as the minutes tick by, given that you started waiting 10 minutes before they were due to arrive. Every time the ding from the elevator echoes through the high ceiling room, your eyes shoot up, only to be disappointed by more men in white coats. Until finally, the familiar ding catches your attention again. You look up, subconsciously straitening your back. The doors slide open to reveal Hill in a sleek, black, knee length dress. The boat neckline guides your eyes to the angular shoulder pads, slightly asymmetric due to her slouched hips. Her hair is neatly tied into a tight twist at the back of her head. Her entire essence reminds you of Alice.
Standing only an inch or so taller behind her, Bucky looks at you with a genuine smile. It's only then that you realise how long his hair has gotten. It's about the same length as it is in the pictures of him from the 40s. Clean cut on the sides, but longer and parted on one side at the top. You don't know why but under the low light of the elevator, you can see how different he looks from when you first started seeing each other. Not just his hair, but his features. Before, it's like he had a permanent frown that only wavered for short lived smiles. Now it's like he glows, radiates. You're not vain enough to say that it's because of you, but you'd like to think you've been a positive influence. As they step out of the lift, you jump out of your seat, practically sprinting into the lift before they can get out. When you get to them, Hill gives you a small smile before moving past towards the reception desk.
Hill
"Just a moment, y/n. Last bit of paperwork."Strangers - Sigrid
You watch as she heads to the desk and has a brief conversation with the man behind it who hands her three sets of papers. When you turn back, Bucky is standing right in front of you with the same smile he had on when the lift doors first opened.
Bucky
"Hello, you."You laugh at his new term if endearment.
Y/n
"Hello... you're unusually chipper?"Bucky
"Well I have a reason."Y/n
"Ooo did Sam finally accept your Facebook friends request?!"Bucky
"Shut up..."He squints at your laugh whilst maintaining his smile as he wraps his arms round your waist, pulling you into a kiss. You're interrupted however, by Hill calling you both over.
Hill
"Hey, love birds! You wanna get out of here or not?"She tilts her head to motion towards the papers in front of her. Holding one another's hands, you walk over as hill slides the busy pages in front of you.
Hill
"Read these, then sign and date at the bottom."Y/n
"What are they?"Hill
"NDA's. Basically you promising that you won't share any information that you acquired here. Nothing about what you saw or underwent etc. Normally you'd sign them before you came in, but you were a little too sensitive."Before you can look to Bucky to see his reaction to this, he's already hunched over with a pen, signing. Trusting him, you follow suit. Once you're done, you place yours on top of his and slide them back to Hill.
Hill
"Did either of you actually read it?"Y/n + Bucky
"Nope."Y/n
"What's that one?"You gesture towards the third pile of papers under Hill's fingertips.
Hill
"Regular discharge papers. Fill these out, then you're free to go."When she places them in front of you, you immediately start scribbling in the allocated places. You're distracted however, when Hill begins to move back to the elevators.
Y/n
"You're not staying?"Hill
"People to meet, things to do."You then place the pen down on the paper and leave your bag with Bucky to stand in front of Hill. Giving a small smile, you wrap your arms around her. You're slightly taller than her, but her glossed pumps make up the difference. You feel her arms bend at the elbow to place her hands on your back, reciprocating the gesture.
Y/n
"Thank you, Maria. For everything."With the gentle pat of her palm on your shoulder blade, you pull away with another smile. Instead of saying anything, she gives you a polite nod and the same to Bucky before continuing to the lift.
You then rejoin Bucky at the desk and finish filling out the papers. With the solid plastic sound of the pen hitting the desk, you both take a deep breath. Reaching round you, Bucky grabs your bag and follows you to the elevators. Not saying a word the whole time, just both of you beaming with happiness and relief. Bucky selects the garage level.Bucky
"Oh, I almost forgot! I have a small surprise..."You eye him suspiciously as he walks backwards out of the lift and into the concrete space. Following slowly, you watch as he turns towards the black Hyundai Tucson SUV parked perfectly to the right of the lifts.
Y/n
"You got a car?"Bucky
"Sort of. Technically, I didn't get it. It's a little thank you from Fury for staying quiet about Sharon."Y/n
"So it's a bribe?"You laugh to yourself at Bucky's giddiness as he desperately tries to get you on board.
Bucky
"It's an investment! This way we don't have to keep shelling out a fortune on cabs and ubers."Y/n
"And you can stop stealing peoples bikes..."You smile lovingly at him as you approach and wrap your arms around his neck.
Bucky
"Borrowed. And that happened like 3 times..."Y/n
"Mmm, sounds like a habit forming!"Both of you chuckling, you sink into a kiss as his hands find their place on your hips. Breaking naturally, you turn your attention back to the car.
Y/n
"Okay, but couldn't you have gotten something cooler? Idk, like a 1969 Chevy Camaro for example."Bucky
"Unfortunately, I didn't get to pick the model. But I'll put a word in for next time."You can feel him smiling as you walk towards the car, putting your bag in the footwell of the seat behind the passenger side. Sliding in comfortably, you look around at the modern style of everything. Bucky's already in his seat and turns the ignition. Smoothly, the dash comes alive with intricate lighting.
Y/n
"Fancy."Bucky
"Yh, I have no idea what half of these buttons do."
