*Bucky and Rebecca's Conversation*

Dancing With Your Ghost - Sasha Alex Sloan

Rebecca
"You haven't changed a bit."

Bucky
"From when I was a teenager?"

As she speaks, Rebecca gives a cheeky smile as she pulls her hand away from his face.

Rebecca
"Well, maybe a few grey hairs here and there."

Bucky chuckles as he bows his head and begins to set up the chess board.

Rebecca
"Your eyes are different though."

Still setting up pieces, Bucky tries to avoid eye contact, pretending he doesn't know what she means.

Bucky
"They're still blue aren't they?"

Rebecca
"You know what I mean. They have a sadness to them now."

Bucky slows down in his placement of the pieces, still avoiding her gaze. He clears his throat however, and picks the pace back up so as not to seem affected by her comment. He stops again when he feels the touch of her hand on the surface of his glove. Looking down at her across the table, she can see his timidness, not wanting to show weakness.

Rebecca
"What did they do to you?"

Not saying a word, Bucky looks down at his free hand. Guiding his other away from her clutch, he begins to peel the leather away from the vibranium. As she sees the gleaming metal, she reaches towards it and begins to examine the gold patterns across the palm. Once again, her eyes feel the sting of pooling tears.

Bucky
"I was gonna come back for you, when the war was over. I was gonna look after you, be the big brother you thought I was. I wanted to be there for you. Help you with your homework, take you to Coney Island... kick the ass of any guy you brought home."

Rebecca laughs at his attempt to lighten the mood.

Bucky
"I'm sorry I wasn't there, Becs."

Slowly, she raises his hand up, forcing him to cup her face whilst gripping his wrist tightly. She looks deep into his eyes, still fighting back the ball in her throat.

Rebecca
"You're here now, Buck."
