Not About Angels - BirdieWhen you get to the hospital, they take you straight to him. As you approach the bed, he's asleep, but quite obviously in pain. He has bruising on his face, a cut on his lip and brow, and one eye is swollen. You can't see anything else other than his knuckles which are also enflamed. Seeing his steady heart rate displayed on the screen next to him makes you relax slightly. You go over to his side and take his metal hand in yours. Finally, the knowledge that he's okay makes you realise how tired you really are. You pull up a chair and continue to hold his hand. You lean forwards and rest your head on your arms and just watch the continuous spikes on the ECG. The subtle rhythm guides you too to sleep. You're nowhere near comfortable, but you're where you need to be.
In what seems like an instant, you're roused from your sleep by a slight shake. You look up to see Bucky still asleep, but looking a mixture of afraid and angry. He continues the thrash slightly, increasing the ferociousness each time. You debate on whether to wake him from the nightmare. He needs rest but that doesn't exactly look peaceful. You begin to stroke his hair and his side gently to sooth him.

"Shhh, Buck... it's just a nightmare, shhh."Examining his face, you must have been asleep for longer than you thought as the swelling in his eye has already gone down a little. Eventually, after hearing some of the most heartbreaking and quiet cries slip out of his mouth, you manage to calm him back to a soft heart rate. You find your way back to your sleeping position and drift off. You pass the disturbance off as a result of his injuries and the trauma, and so think nothing of it.
In your dreams, there's no mention of the past 12 hours. If you could, you'd stay in that dream forever, if it meant that you didn't have to wake up and see him lying in that hospital bed.
