Instead of choosing one of your apartments, you both decided to get a new place in Brooklyn. It's slightly bigger than either of yours (not so much that it's unaffordable) and is close to where Bucky lived before he was drafted. Every few weeks, Bucky leaves to go and help with whatever is going wrong in the world at that specific time. Most of his time is spent aiding the military in whatever they need. Thanks to government funding, they're able to offer him a small salary for his work. Not much considering he's an Avenger and constantly puts his life on the line for them. Between you though, you're very comfortable in your earnings. You never wanted a lavish life, so your simple corner of the world is perfect for you. In fact, you both did some tallying and realised that you had enough income for a little freeloader.

"Alpine, come on buddy... off the keyboard."

You lift the snowy ball of fluff off of your laptop and pec a quick kiss between his ears before planting him on the floor.
You adopted Alpine from a shelter about a month ago and so far he's been the light and bain of your existence. On the one hand, he's gentle, loving and a great cuddle buddy when Bucky's away. On the other, however, he leaves white hair everywhere.

In other news, after Bucky met your family, it made him nostalgic of his own. He wasn't close with his parents but often spoke of his sister, Rebecca. He tried to find any information on her when he first rejoined society but she'd lead a pretty quiet life. He eventually found a birth certificate with her name registered as the mother. After that, he seemed to stop looking. When you asked him why, he said that 'if she managed to find some peace and moved on, I don't wanna disturb that.' Really, you think that he's just scared that she won't remember him or won't want to see him. Even if she's still alive, she's nearly 100, so you're sure she'd want to see her brother again after all this time. You don't push the point however, not wanting to upset him.

Bucky
"Hey, I'm home."

You turn around in your chair, resting your forearm on the back.

Y/n
"Hey! Good day at the office?"

He seems in a semi upbeat mood as he takes off his jacket and gloves.

Bucky
"Eh. Same old, same old. Just a few idiots with guns being taken too seriously. You?"

Y/n
"Lots of editing, nothing special. Oh, there's a letter for you on the counter."

He picks it up, without looking at it, as he walks over to place a hand on your shoulder and kiss on top of your head. Sweeping round the table, he scoops up the cat who's been weaving between his feet for attention. Settling into the seat opposite you, you return to your laptop as he opens the letter and pets the cat. Looking up briefly, you notice the softly troubled look on his face.

"Everything okay?"

He doesn't look away from the carefully hand written letter and pauses before speaking.

Bucky
"It's Uh... It's from my niece."

That one sentence is enough to make you close the lid of your computer and give him your full attention.

Y/n
"What does she say?"

Bucky
"They've been trying to track me down for Rebecca. She wants to see me."

You smile thinking he'll be happy about being reunited, but his worried expression doesn't change.

"That's good news, isn't it?"

He gently folds the letter up and puts it back in the envelope.

Bucky
"Yeah... No, of course... Yes."

You squeeze his hand gently for reassurance before getting up and heading towards the kitchen to make dinner. In these situations, he's best left to his own thoughts.
