Brother (Acoustic) - KodalineYou and Jamie sit on straw garden furniture looking over the limited but beautiful grounds, coffee in hand. You've just finished explaining the basic version of how she has an uncle that looks half her age.
Jamie
"Well that explains... not a lot, but some."Y/n
"Sorry, I would tell you more but it's not my place to say the full version. I'm sure he'll tell you at some point."Jamie
"Oh don't worry about it! I know it's probably not easy to talk about for him."You look over your shoulder through the glass, to see the pair of them talking and smiling over their fresh game of chess.
Jamie
"She always talked about how her big brother taught her how to play when she was little."Y/n
"She really looked up to him, huh?"Jamie
"You kidding? He was the best in her eyes. She was devastated when they got separated."You turn back to face her with slightly furrowed brows.
Y/n
"Separated?"Jamie
"When she was around 9 or 10 and he was 15. That's when their parents died. She went to boarding school and he went to military school. They barely saw each other after that."You look back at him again, realising there's still so much he hasn't opened up about. Most of the minor details Jamie reveals, you already knew. But there's always been a few details missing which Jamie is now clearing up a little.
Resuming your conversation, you break the silence in an attempt to learn a little about the woman sitting in front of you.
Y/n
"And you? Do you have any siblings?"Jamie
"I had a younger brother, George. He died in a car accident when he was 24."Y/n
"I'm so sorry..."Jamie
"It's okay. It was hard at first, but now we only remember the good bits. You?"Y/n
"Uh, brother and a sister. Both back home in London."Jamie
"It's odd to think that you're dating my uncle and yet I'm old enough to be your mother."You both laugh into your mugs as you take a quick slurp.
Y/n
"Do you have any children?Jamie
"Two, Scott and Kimberly."You smile with fondness as you listen intently, but her explaination seemingly stops there.
Jamie
"This may be none of my business, but you two seem pretty serious. Any cousins I should know about?? I don't have to call you Aunt Y/n do I?"Almost choking on yo ur drink, you lean over in your seat to place your cup down on the coffee table.
Y/n
"Trust me, y/n is fine and no we don't have kids."Prying further, Jamie raises a brow to punctuate her inquiries.
Y/n
"We haven't even really talked about it. Kids have always been a maybe for me and I doubt he even thought they were an option. I suppose we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."You're beginning to feel deja vu at the questions, causing you to think back to conversation with Jaq 6 months ago when she accused you and Bucky of baby fever. Like you said, it's a subject you haven't really discussed, but maybe, you're starting to wonder, you should.
Could Have Been Me - The Struts
After a while, you finish your drinks and are called back in by a nurse.
Bucky
"She's been called for dinner and bed, visiting hours are over, so."You check your watch and look between him and the woman from the front desk who's come to collect you three.
Y/n
"It's 5 o'clock..."Bucky
"Fighting a losing battle with gravity requires a lot of energy apparently. Her words, not mine."You and Jamie laugh a little as you reach the desk and are handed a clip board to sign out.
Jamie
"I've arranged for you both to go down as known family on the visitors register, so you can come visit whenever."Bucky
"Thank you, Jamie."They both smile at each other with the same soft expression. As you look between them, you can't help but see the resemblance.
Slightly awkwardly, they go in for a quick hug. Followed by Jamie leaning in for one with you, which you gladly accept. With that, you place your badges on the desk and wave goodbye as you walk out the door, leaving Jamie to finish filling out some paperwork.
