You're not allowed in the air base itself but you see him off at the security gate. You took a cab there so you've asked it to wait whilst you say your goodbyes.
Bucky
"It should only be a few days but I'll tell you if anything changes."
You stand facing each other, intertwining your fingers.
You give him a half smile and try to hide the anxiety behind your eyes. He brings you into a tight hug with his arms over your shoulders and yours round his waist. You bury you face into his shoulder.
Bucky
"I'll be back before you know it."
You pull away slightly to look at him.
Y/n
"I know, just be safe."
You rest your foreheads against each other for a second and share a quick kiss before he has to go. You break apart and watch as he walks through the gate and towards the base. He turns and walks backwards a for a few paces to wave one last time. You smile as best you can and wave back. Once he's out of sight, you climb back in the cab and take a deep breath. Is this what it's gonna be like from now on? Constantly worrying that you've sent him off to get killed? Yes he can handle himself, but it doesn't stop you from getting a pit in your stomach.
