Jennie
I flinched visibly, unconcealed to the monster, the word fan not making comprehensive sense together with 'Lisa Manoban' in her psyche. Lisa leaned in closer, "There are women out there who write to me every day, telling me all about how it would be a privilege to have their pretty little bodies dismembered by me."I ran a hand through my hair, suddenly finding my chest contracting, slowly losing out on the ability to take in oxygen, as if. But when my gaze met the impassive, but devilishly pleased face of the killer in front of me, I understood...it was exactly what Lisa Manoban wanted.
To intimidate me, to fuck with my composure. I cleared my throat, attempting to ignore the uncomfortable knots my stomach had twisted to.
"Were you born or brought up in Seo..."
"I believe it's my turn, Ruby Jane."
I frowned, but nevertheless, didn't voice my exact thoughts. I lowered my stare to Lisa's fingers, which tapped away at the wooden table in haunting decibels.
Lisa began, softly, "Why don't you like being called your other name?"
It took a second for the question to sink in. My name. My name.
"No reason, I just..I don't like the sound of it." My reply came out too throaty for my own good.
"Liar." The gleam in Lisa's eyes, the smirk on her lips, all mocking me in unison.
I shook my head, taking a look at the next question, ignoring how the word liar was now ringing in my head, leaving no space for any possible furthering of that piece of conversation, I began with the next question as if it was my life that was on the line.
"Are you from Seoul? I did a little research and...and there are no records that indicate the existence of a Lisa Manoban, or any family named Manoban for that matter, at least since the year 1927."
Lisa's eyes narrowed slightly, her shoulders rising and falling in a nonchalant shrug, "I don't know."
"What do you m..."
"Why are you still a virgin?"
The file intertwined in my fingers fell on the marble floor with a loud clink, pages flying out like white doves all over the flooring. My eyes threatened to pop out of the sockets, hot blood rushing to my face instantly. "You...you c...can't just ask...wha...you...just..." I stuttered for a second. My eyes met Lisa's twinkling ones. Once again, the azure in them mocking me. Laughing at my staggered form. I cleared my throat, "That's none of your business."
My words had been hissed, hints of spite laced in my otherwise calm tone, amusing Lisa further. I was mortified. How could she just assume that? I was so wrapped up in Lisa's appalling words that I almost didn't notice the sudden chill moving down my shoulder blades.
Almost.
It wasn't until a second later that I realised what had happened.
Lisa Manoban's fingers were laced with my own.
She was still cuffed; however Lisa was just too close.
Too close for my comfort.
