chapter 33

I'm in a staff meeting in the staff room when someone knocks on the door. "Yeah!?" The headmaster asks.

"Mom?" I ask shocked as she walks in. "Mom?" Cristina chuckles. I glare at her. "Excuse me" I say to the headmaster as I leave the room with my mom.

"What are you doing here?" I ask. "You've been ignoring all my calls" she says. I sigh. "Come on, I'll take you to my classroom" I say. She follows me there so we can talk.

An hour later there's a knock on the door and derek walks in. "Hi derek.. can you come back later? My mom's paying me a visit" I stand up.

"I need to ask you a favor" he says. "One sec Mom.. he's one of my students" I say. We walk out of the classroom.

"Derek, what's wrong?" I put my hand on his arm. "M-my dad had a heart attack" he says tearfully. I gasp quietly. "Oh, Sweetheart" I wrap my arms around his neck. I hug him.

I pull away slowly. "Can you watch Amy? Just until I'm back from the hospital.. my mom's a mess and I don't think she should be in that environment" he says. "Of course" I look down at her. She has headphones on so she's not listening.

"Does she know?" I ask. He shakes his head. "Please don't tell her" he says. I nod. I pick her up. She takes off her headphones. "Hi mermer!" She smiles. "Hi" I smile.

"Call me when you hear anything" I hold his hand. He nods. "Thankyou meredith" he kisses my cheek. He leaves.

I walk back into my classroom. "Who's this?" My Mom asks. "Its Derek's sister.. I'm watching her for a little while" i say. "His parents can't get a babysitter?" She scoffs.

"He's my student and his dad is in the hospital.. I'm just doing it as a favour" I say. "Okay" she says.

I sit amelia on my desk infront of me as I sit down. "What you watching?" I ask. "Paw patwol" she says. I smile.

"Are you dating anyone?" My Mom asks. "Nope" I lie. "Why not?" She asks. "Mom!" I warn. "Sorry" she says.

"This.. This is why I left and came here" I say. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked" she says. "Okay" I say.

"How's daddy?" I ask. "Arrogant as ever" she says. I giggle. "How are you Mom?" I ask. "I'm good" she says. I smile.

"Who you?" Amy asks. "This is my mommy.. ellis" I say. "Hello" amelia says. "Hello, nice to meet you" she holds her hand out. "Mom, she's a toddler!" I giggle. Amelia shakes her hand. I laugh.

My smile fades slowly as my mom and amelia talk. I pick up my phone, making sure derek hasn't texted yet. I sigh.

It's a few hours later and derek still hasn't called. My mom is asleep in my spare room and Amy's asleep in my bed upstairs.

I'm sat on the couch drinking a glass of wine and watching tv. I try to call him again. He doesn't answer again. I sigh.

There's a knock on my door. I get up and open it. I put my glass of wine down on the couch sidetable. I look into his eyes.

Should his dad die or not???
