In the morning after breakfast, Wangji and Wuxian met up with Lan Xichen and Wen Qing. They went to Lan Xichen's room and placed a privacy barrier around the room so they could speak more freely.
"Shijie informed Lan Zhan and me that Jiang Cheng is taking in new disciples to strengthen his defenses at Lotus Pier. Lan Zhan and I were thinking about going by Lotus Pier on our way back and making new protection barriers for them. We can then make improvements on the barriers at Cloud Recesses. I can give you the talismans ahead of time if you want," Wuxian explained.
"Alright," Xichen agreed, "if you hand over some talisman, we could have the new barriers up sooner than later. It is better to be more prepared now then not to be prepared at all. There is no telling what Jin Guangyao would do."
"With the alliances of the Moling Su Sect, the Yao Sect, and Xue Yang's new sect, Yue Yang Xue Sect, there is no telling what will happen. The three sects are already making some movements," Xichen explained.
"What movements?" Wuxian asked.
"I do not know if it is just the normal missing Yin Iron piece or if they tried making a new amulet, but there are puppets and corpses near each of those sects. All of which are coming from Qishan. My guess, Meng Yao is planning for a war to start sooner than later," Xichen answered.
"I see," Wuxian said, "well, with Lan Zhan and me having new abilities and being immortal, we will do what we can to help. We can always speak with Baoshan again as well for some guidance. She probably won't join in this war but she might have some insight."
"If she has advice, we could sure use it," Xichen said.
"So after stopping at Lotus Pier and visiting Shijie once more, Lan Zhan and I can go visit her," Wuxian said, "I will make sure the talisman are ready for you before Lan Zhan and I leave."
"Thank you, but try not to overwork yourself too much," Xichen suggested.
"Xichen-Ge, I do not tire like I used to," Wuxian told him.
"I am sure you are stronger but you should still consider your health," Xichen reminded.
"We will," Wangji said and looked at Wuxian, "even if I have to tie him to the bed to get him to relax every once in a while."
"You would like to tie me up wouldn't you?" Wuxian teased.
"Wei Ying!" Wangji warned.
"Do you two mind not flaunting your love for each other right now?" Wen Qing questioned, "we are having an important discussion right now."
Wuxian sighed, "why are you guys still worried about me being too overwhelmed?"
"Because you know how to work yourself dry," Xichen answered, "you are a very selfless person, A'Xian. It is not a bad thing, but your selflessness tends to keep you from focusing on yourself."
Wuxian nodded, "I know," he replied, "I have always been this way. I do not think it is something that I can just change overnight. I was basically taught growing up that my life has little value compared to others. It is not easy for me to just focus on myself."
"That is why we are helping you," Wangji reminded him.
Wuxian let out another sigh and stood up, "I am done with this conversation," he said and went to leave.
"Wei Ying?" Wangji asked standing up and grabbed his arm, "please do not get upset and walk away. We are just thinking about you. If you do not think for yourself, at least let us worry about you. Let me worry about you. Let me help you by giving your life value and care. Let me do my job as your soulmate and partner to help you."
Wuxian stared into Wangji's eyes. He was reminded of just how much Wangji cares for him. Wuxian may not know how to value his own life, but he knows that Wangji sees value in him. Wuxian nodded and was immediately pulled into a hug by Wangji. The comfort of Wangji's embrace always made Wuxian feel better. It reminded him that he was important to someone. Even with Wangji beside him all the time, he sometimes forgets that he is important enough in other people's lives.
Wei Wuxian melted into Wangji's chest as he wrapped his arms around him in return. Wangji placed his soft, warm lips on Wuxian's forehead and let them linger there. Wuxian smiled and closed his eyes as he soaked in Wangji's warmth and love. Xichen smiled at the sight. He was proud of his brother for taking control of the situation and getting Wuxian to calm down before he could storm out of the room. Seeing how quickly Wangji could calm Wuxian down now, let Xichen know that his brother and Wuxian are doing a lot better than how they used to be.
A long time ago, Xichen worried that his brother would always remain closed up. He worried that Wangji would push Wuxian away from him and become isolated from others. Xichen was happy that Wuxian made a friend out of his brother and eventually got Wangji to discover what emotions were. It was a long road to get the two boys to see eye to eye and get along, but in the end, Xichen found it to be worth it.
He got to see his brother happy and smile again. He got to hear Wangji laugh for the first time since being a little toddler. Xichen even got to see a love he only thought was a myth, but seeing his brother with his fated soulmate, he knows that he would not have to worry about Wangji being alone ever again.
