After the lunch hour was over, Wuxian followed Xichen and Wangji to the Elegance room to meet up with Lan Qiren. Wen Qing walked beside Xichen as she was to sit in on the meeting. Wuxian was all too anxious already. Wangji noticed and took Wuxian's hand to help try and calm him down. Wuxian smiled at him knowing what he was trying to do. Wuxian leaned into Wangji as they walked and linked his fingers through Wangji's.
Lan Xichen set up a privacy barrier over the room so they can discuss the matters of the upcoming events. Lan Xichen was not all too thrilled to hear that they will use an ambush tactic to the rival sects as a way to gain some point of advantage in the war. Wuxian sat down closely to Wangji and Lan Qiren could see the uneasiness in Wuxian's eyes. Wuxian felt it was a good time as any to voice out his own concerns and how he is struggling with the ideas of the upcoming events and having flashbacks of the past war.
"I am guessing this is about what happened at the conference meeting," Lan Qiren said, "I am not all too thrilled to take the approach of ambushing the rival sects but if it is to gain an advantage, we should come up with a solid plan to go on."
"We will discuss that, but I want to bring something else up first," Xichen said and looked at Wuxian, "I ran into A'Xian earlier before lunch, and he had some concerns. His panic attacks have been coming back and post trauma is getting to him."
"I had a feeling that may be something to be of concern about," Lan Qiren said and looked at his soon to be Nephew-In-Law, "did you want to talk about anything?"
"I spoke to Lan Zhan, Jiang Cheng, and Xichen-Ge about my concerns...I just have this fear sitting inside me. It is something I am trying to push through," Wuxian explained.
"A'Xian, I know you are trying for the sake of the sect and the events that are to come, but please do not push yourself," Xichen told him, "your fear is valid. I am not judging you in it either."
"What is it you fear?" Lan Qiren questioned.
"Losing more than I already have...being alone," Wuxian answered quietly and looked down at his hands on his lap.
"Wei Wuxian, can you look at me?" Lan Qiren asked. Wuxian looked up at Lan Qiren as he was asked. He was a bit nervous as to what Lan Qiren would say to him.
He and Wuxian have had their fair share of miserable moments, "fear of being alone is something that almost everyone else fears. As you are someone who sacrificed so much of yourself, it is only natural for you to be afraid of being alone and losing more than what you have already lost. Even though you are not yet married to Wangji, you are a part of the Lan Sect now. You are our family and you do not ever have to worry about being alone. As the GusuLan sect, we always make sure we help one another and never leave one person behind. You do not have to worry about being alone anymore."
Wei Wuxian was a bit taken back by Lan Qiren's words. Out of any Lan Sect member, Lan Qiren was the one person Wuxian had never expected to treat him as he had just now. Lan Qiren was always known for his strict rules and being proper and pristine, but Wei Wuxian was not one of those people who Lan Qiren would consider those qualities of Wei Wuxian. To hear Lan Qiren tell him that he was a part of his sect and his family, made him feel something that he had never felt before. He felt whole. He felt like he was worthy of being who he was and to be of value. To be accepted by Lan Qiren like this, it meant the world to Wei Wuxian.
"Thank you, Grandmaster Lan," Wuxian said with a nod.
"I think you can call me Uncle or Shufu at this point," Lan Qiren said to him.
"Really?" Wuxian asked happily.
"Yes," Lan Qiren answered, a bit surprised by Wuxian checking if he heard him correctly.
Wei Wuxian threw his arms around Lan Qiren and gave him a hug, "thank you for accepting me, Uncle," Wuxian said happily. Lan Xichen and Wangji were taken by surprise to see their uncle hug Wuxian back and even smile.
"I said this once before, people are always so drawn to Wuxian," Lan Xichen said and took a drink of his tea, "it is almost impossible for anyone to dislike him."
Wei Wuxian sat up, "I think impossible should be my middle name. I have always stuck to the Jiang Sect motto more than others. Attempt the impossible, as it says."
"You are a person who has achieved quite a bit," Xichen said.
"Going back to the topic of the conference, I think you should know that I am still sensitive to resentful energy," Wei Wuxian reminded, "I might always be as well. If Meng Yao or anyone uses resentful energy, there may be a possibility that I could get caught up in that. I freeze at the sound of the screaming and yelling."
"Is there a charm you made or can make to help keep the resentful energy from distracting you? If you can get by without it bothering you but you are able to sense it, it would be a huge advantage," Xichen suggested.
"I can look into making something, but as Lan Zhan and I are immortal, we do have our new abilities as well. Lan Zhan might be able to help me in some way," Wuxian explained.
"I don't think I can just exchange energy mid-battle," Wangji stated.
"No, but you have comic cultivation. You have a variety of abilities that you can do. Spell casting is one of them. If I can find a rune that blocks the screams from the resentful energy, you could help cast it. Resentful energy does not like your energy, Lan Zhan. It is too pure and positive for it to comprehend anything. That is why I suggest the rune. I'd just have to wear the rune for the remainder of the war," Wuxian explained.
"That I can do," Wangji said, "if we were soul-bonded, my energy could pass to you better and the rune would not be necessary."
"We have yet to marry to complete the bond, and the ambush on the Moling Su Sect is about a week from now," Wuxian stated.
"We could hold a private ceremony for the time being," Lan Qiren suggested, "send a message to your siblings so they are here in three days' time and we can perform a basic ceremony to marry you. When the war is over, and it is a year from that date, we can hold a banquet for the rest of the cultivation world to know of your pairing."
Wei Wuxian looked at Wangji, "what do you think? We will marry in three days?" Wuxian asked.
"I agree if you do," Wangji said.
"Wouldn't we need to split up for the next few days then? Get robes if we can?" Wuxian asked.
"Wuxian could stay with Wen Ning for those few days and Wangji would be with his brother," Wen Qing suggested, "With Wuxian with Wen Ning, he will have someone with him."
"Very well," Wuxian and Wangji agreed.
"Would I get my own robes and forehead ribbon?" Wuxian asked with a smirk.
"The ribbon would take time to get here, but the robes can be ready in a few days," Xichen said, "you do not necessarily have to wear a ribbon either."
"If it is okay, can I just go with the robe? Do the robes have to be white?" Wuxian asked.
Qiren and Xichen smirked, "I am sure we can work with you on the color," Xichen said.
Wuxian smiled and looked at Wangji, "we are getting married sooner than I expected."
Wangji smiled, "it is not only because it is long overdue and we love each other, but it will be beneficial for the war to come. We would be bonded and we could sense each other better."
"Baoshan did tell us we need each other more than either of us realize," Wuxian said, "I wonder if this is what she meant?"
"Should we write to her?" Wangji asked.
"She might want to know...she might also like to see her old friend Uncle Lan Qiren again," Wuxian said.
"Do we have to invite her?" Lan Qiren asked.
"Why do you ask?" Xichen asked.
"No reason," Lan Qiren said and let the topic go. Wei Wuxian was all too curious about it but did not want to push it. Perhaps he could see how it will play out when Baoshan stops by.
