TOKYO, JAPAN

AT 9:00 AM

                                                                                    MARIE

I went to the ATM in the Haneda airport intending to convert my US dollars into Japanese yen.  "Hey," I heard someone say. I looked to my left and saw a handsome Japanese man looking straight at me. "Hi," I greeted him. "Do you need some help?" I thought before I eventually nodded. "Yes," I answered. "That would be great. Besides, can you convert US dollars to Japanese yen with cash?" The guy nodded. "Sometimes," he answered. "Anyway, may I...?" I nodded. "Yes, you may," I answered. I handed this guy the money and watched as he looked at it with his eyes wide open. "Wow," he said shuffling the money as if they were a deck of cards. "This is a lot of money." I watched as he looked at me. "How much are you planning on converting?" "Four thousand dollars," I answered. The man made a shocked look on his face. "That much?" he asked. I nodded. "Mmm-hmm," I answered politely. "What for?" the man asked. "I'm going on a cruise to Vancouver," I answered. "And I need this much because it's expensive."

The man nodded. "I believe you," he said. "That is very expensive. Anyway, let me help you with that." I watched as the man entered the pin in the ATM. "What's your name?" I asked. "Dorobo," the man answered. "Dorobo Ika." I watched as Dorobo looked at me. "What about you?" he asked. "What's your name?" "Marie," I answered. "Marie Monroe." "Marie," Dorobo let out. "What a beautiful name." I chuckled. "Thanks," I told Dorobo. "It was after my great-grandmother." "Well, isn't that sweet?" Dorobo asked. "Anyway, thanks for letting me help you. I appreciate it." "You're welcome," I said. I watched as Dorobo pressed a button and money came out of the ATM. As the money poured out, I noticed that Dorobo's eyes started to glow more and more as the money came out like lava. "Woah," Dorobo let out as if he saw a pretty girl. The more money poured out, the more I got a weird feeling about this. I waited for a minute until all of the money poured out.  I sighed in relief when all the money came out. "Thank goodness," I said out loud.

That's when Dorobo collected all of the money for himself. "Hey!" I exclaimed. "What are you doing?" Dorobo didn't answer. Instead, he just ran off with the money. "Stop!" I shouted. I chased after Dorobo. "Stop, thief!" I yelled. "Stop! That's my money you're stealing!" I chased him down to the door. "Somebody call Chief Matsuda!" Suddenly, Dorobo pulled out a gun and I gasped. I quickly placed my hands up in the air. "You stupid girl," Dorobo teased. "You didn't think that I was helping you get the money for your cruise, weren't you? I wanted your money for myself. Can't you see? Winning people's trust is the best way to fool people as a thief." I stayed silent and kept my hands in the air. "Now, please stay out of my way or you will..." Dorobo said before he got punched in the face by someone. I turned and saw Mr. Mikami standing there. "Mr. Mikami," I said out loud. I had no idea how Mr. Mikami knew where I was, but I was thankful that he was there.

"Stay away from my student, you delinquent!" Mr. Mikami growled. I watched as Dorobo got up with the money. "What are you, a cop?" he asked. "Remember you got arrested for assaulting a kid." "Correction," I said out loud as Dorobo looked at me. "Mr. Mikami slapped a kid because he was provoked to do it." "Whatever," Dorobo said. "I never wanted you in Japan anyway! Doesn't matter if you're Japanese or not, you are a complete arse!" I watched as Dorobo focused his attention on Mr. Mikami. I didn't want Dorobo to hurt him so I decided that it was the perfect time to do what I had to do. Write his name on a scrap from the Death Note. I pulled on my watch and waited for it to reveal a piece of the Death Note. I quickly got out a pen and wrote:

"Dorobo Ika"

Before Dorobo or Mr. Mikami could look at me, I quickly closed my watch and placed my pen back in my purse. "Hopefully, I can be the one to take you out," Dorobo continued. "And make sure that beautiful little girlfriend of yours finds herself a boyfriend who isn't disrespectful to the Japanese culture. Oh, wait. It's not just you, it's her aunt too." Mr. Mikami clenched both of his fists. "What was her name again?" Dorobo asked. "Niko?" "Stay away from Minako's family!" Mr. Mikami exclaimed. Dorobo laughed. "I would, but I love Japan too much to allow people like you or her into this country," he commented. My heart dropped as I watched as he placed a bullet into his gun. "So, please, Kaito Mikami," Dorobo began. "Leave this country or you and Niko will..." Suddenly, Dorobo clenched his heart and groaned in pain.
