*Eli's P.O.V*
Driving back home with the championship trophy in the backseat had me smiling the whole time.
It's still hard to believe that I'm the All Valley champion. I won.
And I can't wait to tell my mom the news.
Once I got home, I parked in the driveway and luckily for me, my mom is currently home. I got out of the car and then opened the backseat so that I can grab my trophy.
Then I headed towards the inside of the house.
Opening the door, I'm hit with an amazing smell. A smell that can make people hum when they can just get a whiff of it. I can already tell that my mom is making fried chicken.
"Guess who became a champion today?" I said as I entered the kitchen.
My mom gasped once she saw me, "Oh my gosh, Eli. I'm so proud of you."
I put my trophy down as she walked over to me and then she embraced me in a hug. I hugged her back and I can feel my mom's warmth. I can tell that my mom is proud of me. Her energy just screams it.
We pulled away from the hug and she said, "I had a feeling that you were going to do great so I made a good dinner for you."
I smiled. "Thank you, mom."
"You deserve it." She smiled.
The fried chicken finished cooking and she even made a side of Mac and cheese to go with it which I thought was absolutely perfect.
We made small talk, me explaining how some of the fights went. I left out the part where I took off the top of my gi because my mom still doesn't know about the fact that I have tattoos. And planning on getting another one soon. Well, I'm planning on getting rid of the grim reaper tattoo soon.
"And how did Sam do?" My mom asked.
"She made it to the finals.." I started to say, "But she lost her final fight and she's taking it hard. She was pretty upset right after."
"Oh, poor thing."
"It broke my heart to see her so upset."
"I wouldn't blame her for being upset." My mom said, "Taking a loss like that would be really hard."
"Losing sucks, mom."
Trust me, I would know. I knew how I was feeling at the All Valley last year. And I just got disqualified.
"Do you want more fried chicken, Eli?"
I shook my head. "Not right now. Maybe later. I have to do something but let me just say, the food is absolutely delicious."
"Thank you, honey."
I gave my mom a smile before I excused myself and then prepared to do what I had promised myself that I would do.
When I got to the bathroom, I locked the door so that my mom doesn't come in. Well, she would need permission because this is my own bathroom that's connected to my room.
I took off my shirt and then run my hand through the faded purple that's in my hair. I could touch it up if I want to go with that decision. But I also want a new start. New new beginning.
And me having a buzz cut will provide the fresh start.
When I found the shaver, I took a deep breath before running it through my hair. I can't back out now.
I continued buzzing my head as I would watch the purple strands fall to the ground and onto the bathroom counter.
If this happened in a different circumstance, I would've been devastated. But I'm okay with my choice of buzzing my head and having this fresh start. And who knows? Maybe I'll have the blue in my hair again.
When I finished buzzing my hair and I had no more purple, I looked at myself in the mirror, satisfied with my work. Satisfied with my appearance.
I definitely feel good.
And since I had a karate tournament today, I decided to take a quick shower before I end up staying in my room the rest of the night.
The water dripping down my stomach was able to ease any pain that I gained while I was in the tournament. I'll close my eyes and think I was underneath a waterfall. It's taking away my pain. My worries. My troubles.
The warmth, the relaxation - it's taking over my soul. My well being. But I'm letting it because I've been through hell lately.
I finished washing my hair and then I turned the shower off. I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around my waist.
I went into my room and sat on my bed, holding my phone in my hand.
The All Valley tournament was the last time I talked to Sam. I tried to comfort her after her final match but she walked away so quickly.
Pressing on her contact, I waited for her to answer. It ranged two times before I saw that my call got declined.
What? Is she serious?
She saw me calling her and then just had the thought to not answer it? I'm trying to be there for her and give her comfort when I know she's feeling down.
What is she exactly doing, leaving me in the dark?
I so badly wanted to call her again but knowing how she's feeling right now, she'll just decline it again.
Feeling annoyed, I shook my head and then put my phone on my bedside table. I'm not going to give up on her but something inside of my heart is telling me that she's close to giving up on me.
I had thought that the past few months that Sam and I have been together, we would have a strong connection. We did have a strong connection.
But if we don't have a strong connection anymore then what do we have?
It's very telling that Sam is taking this loss to heart and she's probably prepared to step away from everything in her life. Which means she'll step away from her relationship with me.
So if Sam is planning on stepping away from me, then what kind of connection do we have?
I'll tell you what kind: a shattered one.
