Sam👑💜: Have a great day at school.

Sam👑💜: I love and miss you 😘

Me: Thank you. I love and miss you too ❤️

I sighed and then turned my phone off, paying attention to Demetri as we entered the school that's filled with kids.

"Lucky for us we have three classes with each other." He said, with excitement. "Senior year is going to be great."

"Great for you, not for me." I said.

He frowned at my sudden sad mood but I think he has a feeling as to why I'm feeling that way.

It's been just over a week since Sam jetted off to Okinawa, and man, do I feel the miles.

There's this weird quiet that hangs in the school hallway where we used to chat. Demetri tries to fill in, but it's not the same without Sam's easy laugh and her fearless spirit bouncing off the lockers.

But then, when she sends me updates, it's like she's right here with me. She's killing it as a karate sensei, and I can almost see her students' awe-struck faces.

She's got this natural knack for teaching, and I can tell she's pouring her heart into every lesson. Her stories are like a window into her world there, and I hang onto every word.

Yeah, I miss her—a lot. But hearing about her adventures, the way she's embracing every challenge, it's inspiring. It's like she's carving out a piece of the world for herself, and I'm just stoked for her.

I can't wait to hear more of her stories, to see how this journey shapes her. And deep down, I know that when she comes back, we'll have a ton to catch up on, in and out of the dojo.

"I know you're missing Sam."

I nodded. "Yeah, a lot. I think about her all the time."

"You two text everyday?" He asked.

"Yeah." I answered. "Because of the time different, she'll be going to bed when it's morning here and vice versa. But we're making it work. Before school started, I would wake up a bit earlier just so that we could text or FaceTime."

"That's good. I like to hear that."

"But I'm starting to think that the distance is getting to her. I got a voice message from her where she's crying and she's expressing how much she's missing me. I was able to make her feel better but I hate how I can't hug her."

"What about you? Is it getting to you?"

I shrugged. "A little bit. But since it's getting to her a little bit more, I'm keeping strong."

"Ah, look at you being the hero." He patted my shoulder.

"I just want her to be okay."

Demetri and I stood by the lockers, now just waiting for class to begin. We're distracting ourselves with conversation.

"So about these classes?" I started to mention.

"Yeah, we have three classes with each other."

"Which ones?"

"English, Math, and Advance Tech."

"Sweet." I grinned. "We're so gonna kick ass this school year."

"You know it." He grinned back at me.

Then I asked, "Do you have any classes with Yasmine?"

"History and science."

"You good with that?"
