*Eli's P.O.V*
"I wanted to talk to you."
I stared at Sam, completely taking her in as she is wearing some purple workout pants and a white shirt with a purple design. Her hair is perfectly pulled back with braids and she stared at me with those puppy eyes that would possibly work on me last year. But now they don't.
Her stance says she's sorry but her betrayal felt venomous. It stung. And it still does.
"You want to talk to me?" I scoffed, "Well, I don't want to talk to you."
"Please hear me out, Eli." She begged.
I glared at her. "Why should I?"
"Because I still love you and you deserve an explanation for everything."
There she goes, telling me that she still loves me. How ironic. Her coming back here, to the Valley, is a mistake. She should've stayed in Okinawa.
"An explanation for you cheating on me when you were in Okinawa?" I pressed, "For having an affair and I found out after it happened. After I called. How is Ren by the way?"
"Ren isn't apart of this." She started to cry.
"He's not apart of this?" I snapped, "Of course, he's apart of this, Sam. He was apart of this the moment you jumped into bed with him. You know that but you deny it."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." She said, tears falling down her face as she would clutch her hair with her hands.
"I still remember the day." My voice cracked.
|Flashback|
The first hints of dawn crept through the blinds, painting my room in a soft, muted palette. I stretched, the sleepiness clinging to me like a second skin, but today, it was easy to shake off.
The thought of hearing Sam's voice was better than any alarm clock. I tossed the covers aside and got out of bed, my feet hitting the cold floor, sending a shiver up my spine.
I shuffled to the closet, picking out the usual—jeans and a tee. Nothing fancy, but it was the routine that grounded me.
Each motion was automatic, but my mind was halfway across the world, under Okinawa's starry sky.
I could almost hear the lull of the ocean that Sam described, the waves a soft murmur in the background of our calls.
Teeth brushed and hair somewhat tamed, I grabbed my phone with a familiar flutter in my chest. The screen lit up, and I navigated to Sam's contact with practiced ease.
My thumb hovered over the call button, heart racing with anticipation. It was almost like a ritual, this bridge we built between time zones, a connection that not even the vast ocean could sever.
I hit call, the dial tone filling the silence of my room, the sound marking the countdown to Sam's hello.
It was a moment suspended in time, where every second stretched and the world outside didn't exist.
Just me, the rising sun, and the promise of Sam's voice to start my day.
And after a few seconds, I waited to hear her voice. Except, I was caught off guard when I heard someone else's.
"Hello?" A voice said.
My eyes twitched in confusion as I would stare at Sam's caller id on my phone before pressing it against my ear. "Hello, is Sam there?"
"Who's calling?"
"Eli. Can you tell her that I want to talk to her before I head to school?"
