*Sam's P.O.V*
|Earlier that day|
I sat on the steps of the sparring deck that's at Miyagi-Do, my phone in hand, scrolling through my social media feed.
It was a way to distract myself from the nervous anticipation of seeing Eli again. As I swiped through the posts from my friends, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension.
I came across some funny videos and interesting articles, but my mind couldn't fully focus on them.
Thoughts of Eli and our complicated history kept creeping back into my mind. I wondered what he would say, how he would react when we finally had a chance to talk.
Just as I was about to click on a YouTube video to further distract myself, I heard footsteps approaching from behind.
My heart skipped a beat, thinking it was Eli. I turned around, expecting to see his familiar face, but to my surprise, it was Miguel standing there, wearing his signature smile.
Confusion washed over me as I tried to make sense of the situation. Why was Miguel here instead of Eli?
I hadn't expected to see him, especially not now. Miguel's presence added another layer of complexity to the already tangled web of emotions I was feeling.
"Miguel.." I blinked. "What are you doing here?"
"I heard you came back home from Ohio. And when I went to your house to visit you, you weren't there. But Anthony told me where you might be at."
Miguel went to my house? To visit me? Why?
"Yeah, I'm at Miyagi-Do." I said, "I'm waiting for Hawk so that we can talk."
"I can stay here until he arrives.." Miguel was saying.
"That's okay, Miguel."
"No, I insist."
Miguel came to sit next to me and I had to scoot over just a bit. Let there be some space. If I'm honest, I do find this to be a little weird.
"So, how was Ohio?" Miguel asked me.
I shrugged. "It was fine. I got to spend some time with my cousin which is good. I actually found it relaxing."
"That's good." He nodded.
I nodded a little but didn't say anything. Why is this awkward?
But then again, I wasn't expecting Miguel to be here. I was waiting for Eli to arrive.
What am I supposed to say? I have no idea.
"So, what was it like when you got back home?"
Him asking me that question made a shudder go down my spine. Since I'm remembering the reason why my mom, brother and I came back home. And it's frightening.
"It was my dad." I started to explain.
"Your dad gave you a call?"
"No, it was Chozen."
Miguel's eyebrows furrowed. "What do you mean?"
The phone call that my mom received when we were in Ohio. She was in tears in seconds and it made me really worried. Then she told me what happened and then suddenly I started to get worried. Same with my brother.
Then we got ready to head back to the airport to come back home.
I sighed, trying to compose myself without crying. "My dad got attacked by Terry Silver. He's in bad shape. My heart broke when I saw him with a black eye and it seemed like he couldn't talk because his throat really hurts. I hated seeing him like that."
