*Sam's P.O.V*
As I lay my suitcase open on the bed, I can't help but feel a mix of excitement and a pinch of uncertainty. Sorting through my wardrobe, I try to imagine what life in Okinawa will be like for an entire year.
"Will I need this?" I ask myself, holding up a light sweater, considering the island's climate.
I reach for my favorite jeans and that cozy hoodie I love – comfort over style for this journey.
It's a puzzle, deciding which pieces of my current life to bring into this new chapter.
My hand brushes against a photo on the bedside table, and I pause. It's Eli and me, captured in a moment of pure joy. I allow myself a soft, bittersweet smile.
The thought of a long-distance relationship with Eli is daunting, but deep down, I know we're solid, we're real. This isn't an end, just a different kind of beginning.
I gently place the photo on top of the neatly folded clothes. It's a promise, a piece of home to keep close.
With each item I pack, I'm weaving the fabric of tomorrow's dreams.
Here's to the future, to embracing change, and to holding onto love, no matter the miles between us.
I'm knee-deep in a sea of t-shirts, each one a different chapter of my life, when the door creaks open.
It's Anthony, in his usual laid-back attire: black basketball shorts paired with a vibrant yellow shirt that's almost as loud as his personality. His hair is a tousled mess, a testament to his carefree approach to life.
He leans against the doorframe, a lopsided grin on his face, eyes scanning the organized chaos of my room.
"Packing marathon, huh?" he quips, and I can't help but return his smile.
There's comfort in his presence, a reminder of the family ties that make leaving bittersweet.
As I fold another shirt, placing it into the suitcase, I feel the weight of his gaze. It's like he wants to say something, something more than just a casual observation.
But for now, he just watches, the silent guardian amidst the flurry of my departure preparations.
I turned to look at my younger brother. "What's on your mind?"
"N-Nothing." He shook it off as he came into my room more and he closed the door.
Clearly he has something to say because he closed my bedroom door and he's kind of fidgety. He does have something on his mind.
"It's not nothing. What is it?" I asked.
He sat down on my bed and waited for him to say something. He's clearly trying to keep calm even when something is bothering him.
"It's going to be hard when you go to Okinawa." He said, "I don't even know what to feel knowing that my sister will be in another country for a year."
"Anthony.." I started to say, my eyes becoming soft.
"I look up to you. If I need advice, I go to you because you always know how to help. What do I do when I need help and you're in Okinawa?"
"You ask mom or dad." I simply tell him.
"Dad doesn't understand me like you do.." he said, "And sometimes, it can be hard to talk to mom. But it's not hard to talk to you."
"I'll still have a phone, Anthony. You can text me anytime, whenever you need to."
"But the time difference-"
"Don't worry about the time difference." I interrupted him, "I'll still send you a message or a phone call. Whenever it's night time here, and morning there or the opposite. I'm always going to be here for you, Anthony."
