"Grandma, do you need help with those?" I asked her as she was putting away the groceries.

"I'm okay, Sam." She told me as she would put some food in the fridge and then the pantry.

My grandma, Lucille, has been staying over the house the past few days. She's been here ever since Eli was in the hospital and she was looking over Anthony since my parents didn't want him to be alone.

I would've thought that my grandma would go back to her house but she had decided to stay here for a few days. She wants some quality family time and I totally understand her reasoning for staying here a bit longer.

"Are you making dinner tonight?" I asked her.

"Yeah, I asked your dad if I could and he didn't refuse."

"I'm sure dad missed your cooking."

My grandma looked at me. "He better."

I let a smile play on my lips at her words and it makes me happy to know that my grandma is here and spending time with us. It's still summer but school will start back up soon. Not ready for that.

"So, how's that boyfriend of yours?"

"He's doing okay.." I answered, "He'll sometimes be in pain but he's taking medicine for that. He's getting a lot of rest and just taking it easy."

"Well, that's good." My grandma nodded, "I can only imagine how you're feeling about it though since he's your boyfriend and all."

I understand what my grandma is trying to say. She can still be wise when it's appropriate.

"I have a certain worry to a degree. But he's always assuring me that he's okay and he'll heal in no time." I then sat down at the kitchen table because I got tired of standing.

"He's a fine young man."

"He's the best."

If it was possible, the smile on my face grew bigger just talking about Eli. The mention of him brings me such warmth that I constantly want to be around him all the time. And I never want to leave his side.

And as I had thoughts in my head, there was a knock on the door. Who's here? Could it be Eli?

No because he's been instructed to stay in the house for at least a week and it's been a few days since his car accident.

"Would you get that, Sam?" I heard my grandma ask me.

"Sure, grandma."

As I approached the door, a sense of unease settled over me.

I reached out, my hand almost trembling, and opened the door to reveal Tory standing there. Surprise jolted through me—Tory, of all people, on my doorstep.

Our truce had been a necessity, not a choice, and now here she was, blurring the lines of where we stood with each other.

I couldn't help but notice the bandage wrapped tightly around her hand, a stark reminder of the night's intensity.

I remember when I saw her injury but I don't know how it occurred. She didn't tell me. Not that I have asked though. It's not like Tory and I go to the mall and discuss gossip.

But either way, she's here. She's standing in front of me.

She was vulnerable yet somehow imposing. Seeing her injury made the memories flood back, and I was left wondering what this visit meant.

Were we still allies, or was this the calm before another storm?

"Hey.." I first said.

"Hey.." she said back to me.
