Asher's pov

Cae and I followed Artemis to Cae's room unnoticed, he was putting his things away.

"And how is our future king?" I walked in, arms opened for a hug

"Ash, my man."

His eyes lit up as he went for the hug

"It's been far too long"

"Yea yea save the catching up for later"

Cae nagged

"Ah speaking of catching up" I held the palms of my hands together in a rubbing motion

"Ash..." Artemis shot me a look

"What? It seems so much has happened since I'd last seen you" I guilted him

Artemis sighed, gazing into the clothes, he was arranging some hangers.

"It's true but I'm not ready to talk about it yet"

Cae elbowed me "Stop being so nosey, he's barely recovered"

"Okay? Ouch!"

"I'm fine Cae. Don't worry" Artemis assured

Cae: "If you say so, now. About that barrier, can you make an exception for me? So I can check up on Celeste?"

Artemis: "Oh shoot! I forgot about giving you the healer pass," as he paced around bewildered, scratching his raven head of hair "...I'm guessing I should also leave room for the king's letters"

Cae squinted his eyes "Mhmm, I thought so."

"You two never changed"                                                                                                                                                   I stood in the middle of them staring back and forth, they were always bickering but nothing too close to heart. A familiar sense of nostalgia took me back to such moments

"You'll attend tea though, right?" Artemis wondered

"Yes of course dummy" Cae hissed "But I'm leaving afterward"

As a healer in training, I wasn't as professional as my cousin but I could still sense when someone was feeling unwell. Artemis was distraught and was pulling on his best act to conceal it

"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked Art

Artemis: "I'm so worried about seeming biased, letting the healers and myself surely out when necessary but not the others..."

"The many merits of being in charge is the rules don't apply to you." I winked

His blue orbs grew with concern

"I'm serious..." he squirmed

Caelum: "Okay? So tell them over tea."

"You don't think... she'll be there, do you?"

Caelum and I exchanged looks of defeat. With no intention or means of holding back the sound of our teeth-gritting, presenting Art with just the answer he needed, not to hear, but at the very least; to know. A mere look of wordless judgment.

Silence was the best strategy

"Ugh so be it..." he surrendered

Artemis hid behind the closet door; to get changed.

Cae and I exchanged looks of mockery between one another behind the door

"& by the way," Art paused as he talked behind the closet door
