Lizzie's POV

October 2nd, 2023

I wake up thanks to the loud ringing of my house's doorbell and my cellphone's ringtone. I groan at the very abrupt way to ruin my morning. I move my hand around my nightstand until I find my phone and answer without looking at the contact. "What?!"

"Finally! I've been calling you all morning, Elizabeth. I know you are home. Your car is here. Why aren't you letting me in?", my mom rambles out from the other side of the phone, without leaving space for me to answer.

"Please, could you tone your volume down a bit?", I say with a raspy voice while holding my head.

"Did you just wake up?", my mom asks once again, with her mom voice this time.

"Yes. What do you want?", I ask, feeling absolutely terrible after last night.

"Excuse me, young lady. I just wanted to see my daughter, and catch up", she scolds me, and I sigh regretful of my words.

"Sorry, Mom. Are you here?"

"Yeah, I'm at the door"

"Okay. I'll be right down in a minute", I say before hanging up the phone and flopping back on my bed. I exhale deeply and crawl out of the bed until I reach the stairs. With a lot of effort, I stand up and use the railing as support while getting down. I really shouldn't have drank that bottle of whiskey all alone. "Hi Mom"

"Hi sweetheart. Are you feeling okay? You're not one to stay in bed until the afternoon"

"What?! What time is it?", I ask panicked.

"It's 3 PM, Lizard. Are you sure you're okay?", my mom asks me softly and I just sigh before moving to the side and signaling for her to walk inside the house.

"No Mom, I'm not okay. Yesterday was Brie's birthday party, and Y/N was there", I tell my mom as she makes herself comfortable in the living room's couch.

"Well, that's great. You got to see your friend", my mom comments innocently, really excited I got to be with Y/N.

"Yeah, I got to see her. But Katie was there too, and I...said some things to her"

"What did you say, Elizabeth?", my mom asks me sternly and I sigh before joining her on the couch.

"Nothing bad. I just...I was really jealous because Y/N spent all night with her, kissing and dancing and showing her off to everyone. We ended up being left alone with Katie and...I made a comment about her not being able to live up to Y/N's ex"

"Elizabeth, why would you say that?!"

"I don't know, okay?! Like I said, I was feeling really jealous, and Katie was right there, being her perfect, kind, sweet self, it just triggered all the bad feelings inside of me and I...I screwed up"

"How exactly did you screw up?", my mom asks worried.

"After our conversation, Katie left in a rush. I didn't think much of it at the time, but when she came back, she was with Y/N, and she didn't look so happy. That's when she asked me if we could talk and we ended up having a tiny argument", I tell my mom and she just stays silent looking at me through squinted eyes. With that, she immediately breaks me. "Okay, alright! It wasn't tiny, it was pretty bad, actually. But, if you really think about it, it's Y/N's fault. She shouldn't have left us alone in the first place"
