Best Friend - Rex Orange County

Y/N's POV

October 23rd, 2023

I was sitting in my studio's office, polishing the last few details for the open house before sending all the information to my famous friends who are attending as well as all the press outlets that will be present, before a knock on my door made me shift my attention, only to be surprised by a rather unusual visit.

"Jarnie?", I ask confused as I see Lizzie's mom walking inside my office.

"Hi Y/N", Jarnie greets me before I stand up and we share a short hug.

"What are you doing here? Not that I'm not happy to see you but, why are you here?", I ask as I walk us to sit down at the couch on the side of my office.

"I wanted to come see you and catch up. We haven't hung out in a while", Jarnie explains to me, and I smile softly at her.

"Yeah, it's been a while since we last hung out. Work and the wedding arrangements have been keeping me busy. But that can't be the only reason why you came. You normally text me to arrange these sorts of meetings. Why did you really come to see me?", I inquire, having a big suspicion that Jarnie didn't just come to hang out. I see her debate with whether she should tell me the truth or not before she sighs defeated.

"Alright Y/N, you caught me. I really came here to talk to you about Lizzie", Jarnie informs me, and my expression turns into one of confusion.

"About Lizzie? Did something happen to her? Did she ask you to talk to me?", I ramble out questions, suddenly getting very worried. I still haven't heard from Lizzie since the day at the beach. I don't know what Jarnie could tell me next.

"Calm down, sweetie. Lizzie's fine. Nothing is wrong with her. It's just that...she has been acting weird lately. That's why I came to talk to you. She told me about you girls' conversation during Brie's party, and she was sad of course. But this past week, she has been acting rather strangely. She's not crying anymore, she's just...quiet. And whenever I ask her what's going on with her, she tells me it's nothing, but I'm her Mama, I know it isn't nothing. I was wondering if maybe you could give me a clue as to why she's acting this way", Jarnie explains to me, and I look down to my lap feeling rather guilty.

"I...I invited Lizzie to a beach day with our friends a week ago, and we had an amazing time. I felt like...we were getting our friendship back. But...when we went out dancing that night, 'Power Strike' ended up performing for a fan and I may have revealed to everyone I'm about to get married. I didn't say to who, but this seemed to hurt Lizzie deeper than I could ever imagine. That's why she left the group crying, and without saying goodbye", I reveal to Jarnie, and she just looks at me in silence. "I haven't talked to her ever since"

"Oh Y/N, I...don't know what to tell you"

"I knew Lizzie was hurting, but I didn't know talking about my current relationship in front or with her present wasn't allowed", I try to defend myself, but Jarnie gives me an unimpressed look.

"Of course she's still hurting, Y/N. She loves you", Jarnie tells me, and I sigh deeply before dropping my face into my hands in frustration.

"I love her too", I mumble into my hands before looking back at Jarnie. Her expression is a mixture of sadness and a bit of...disappointment.

"But not like you used to"

"She told you about that?"

"Of course, Y/N. Again, I'm her Mama. She tells me everything, especially when it has to do with you", Jarnie reveals, making me sigh guiltily again.
