Why isn't she saying anything?

"Doctor, what's happening? Everything's fine, Erick asked, looking at how quiet she had been for the past ten minutes. I could feel his hold on my feet become firm. My eyes refuse to look away from the doctor's face. This unnecessary suspense would give me a heart attack.

"Just a minute," the doctor said while once again concentrating on the monitor. My heart kept beating loudly inside my rib cage. I couldn't take it anymore. Her silence was making me imagine unimaginable things. I swallowed the lump, which was slowly choking me. I took a deep breath after swallowing it and mustered up my courage to talk with her.

"Doctor, if something is wrong, you can tell us," I said in my timid voice. I was so worried for my child at this point. She averted her eyes from the screen and looked at me, and at this point, I could hear the loud thumping of my heart in my ears. Erick's gaze did not waver from me, not even for a second. Her face was still for a few seconds before a big smile stretched on her lips.

"Everything seems perfectly fine," she said with that big smile still on her lips. My ears found it hard to believe, and my heart was still beating fast like crazy.

"What about the baby? How is the baby?" Erick asked. I wanted to ask after seeing how I had suddenly become quiet.

"Babies are perfectly fine," she said with a big smile still on her lips, and at that point, I took a deep breath of relief. She didn't know how eager I was to list that. All the worries that had gripped me started to lose. I looked at Erick, and he had a matching smile on his face. My babies are perfectly fine. Wait a minute. Our eyes widened at the same time.

"Babies," we both ended up asking at the same time. She laughed looking at our reaction.

"I was wondering when you would notice it," she said with a smile while looking at us.

Did I hear right?

"I'm having twins," I asked with a look of disbelief on my face.

"Yes," she said with a smile to confirm it. I immediately looked at Erick. He was still smiling, and it gave me some kind of relief.

"That's what I was checking again. I saw two features, and first I was surprised, so I checked it again. Now I have confirmed that you are pregnant with twins," she said, clearing out doubts.

"How are they doing, doctor?" Erick asked, wanting to know more about them.

"They seem perfectly fine to me, and it is an early stage, so it is difficult to tell by only ultrasound. We have to wait for a blood test, and then only I will be able to give you a proper answer to that question," she said while looking at both of us. Once again those troubling thoughts started to clog my mind.

"Think only positive thoughts, and everything will be fine. In this state, you have to be as positive as you can be. Remember, your tough process also affects babies because, in the womb, they feel and sense everything. They sense all positive or negative thoughts," she said, looking at my face. Maybe she had an idea of what I was thinking. I nodded my head, understanding what she wanted to tell me. She then helped me wipe the gel from my belly. Once she was done, she went to her chair, giving us some privacy. I wore my pants properly before getting off the bed with the help of Erick. As soon as I stepped down, he engulfed me in a tight hug.

"I'm so happy for us," he said while kissing my head. I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face in his warm chest.

"Me too," I mumbled with a big smile on my face. He pecked my lips lovingly before we walked out of there. We took our seats on chairs in front of her table.

"So are there twins in your family?" she asked once we settled in our chairs. I thought for a second and said.

"I don't think so. We are both the only children of our parents, and I don't think any of our relatives have twins," I told her after thinking for a few more minutes.

"Maybe your great-grandparents must have had twins because twins run in the family line. We will only know if you will have fraternal or identical twins after birth," she told us the reason why we are expecting twins. I didn't know the terms she was using properly, but I was curious. I will search them to get a better understanding of it.

"Doctor, how long will it take for the blood test reports?" Erick asked with slight impatience. I know we both want to know what it says. I'm praying everything will be fine. All blood reports come back clean, and I have a healthy and safe pregnancy. I have taken the doctor's advice seriously. The doctor was about to answer when there was a knock on the door.

"Seems like reports are here," she said with a smile.

"Come in," she said to the nurse. The nurse gave the reports to the doctor and immediately started to read them. Once again my heart started to beat fast. I didn't want to feel this nervousness, but I couldn't help it. Unknowingly, I moved my hand on my flat stomach, and Erick held my other hand under the table. I took a deep breath to calm myself. Once again my eyes started to read her facial expressions. Her brows kept raising and furrowing as she read. This time, she didn't take long to tell us what was written on them. I was holding my breath at this point. I hope everything is good. She removed her glass and looked at us with a serious expression on her face. My breath hitched when she said.

"Reports are not as I expected them to be."
