“We are not going anywhere, and I don't want to hear any ifs and buts.”
His firm voice echoed in my ears. His cold blue eyes kept looking at me. My brows furrowed more. His jaw remained clenched, and it confused me even more. How could he change his mood so drastically? Now what problem does he have to have dinner with my family? His eyes were telling me not to question him further, but how could I not? I wanted a valid reason. Lily seemed so happy when she invited us for dinner. She was also baking my favourite chocolate cake for me, and if I didn't go, all her efforts would be in vain. I exhaled deeply, letting my head cool down a bit. It was too heavy with so many unanswered questions.
“But why? Why can't we go there?" I asked, looking straight in his eye. His nose flared slightly, and his jaw became even tighter.
“Give me one valid reason, and if you have none, then you are coming with me,” I said in a firm tone. I saw sudden turmoil appearing in his eyes when I asked him that. I could see it was getting difficult for him to give me one valid reason he was losing against me. I smirked looking at him.
“You don't have any reason. We are going, and it's final,” I said, getting out of bed. He held my wrist once again, making me look at him with raised brows.
“Try to understand. Doll. We can't go there now,” he once again tried to convince me, but I took my hand out of his hold.
“I will if you give me one valid reason, and if you can't, then start getting ready, or else I will go alone,” I said, and a sudden panic surged in his cold blue eyes, but he blinked them away immediately. I knew something was bothering him, but if he didn't tell me, how would I know? I got dressed in simple yet comfortable wide-leg jeans and a button-down shirt, which I tucked into one side of my jeans. I decided to keep minimal makeup because I looked a little sick. I covered it with a little makeup and then applied cherry gloss. I left my hair open. He got dressed in blue jeans and a deep maroon button-down shirt. Like always, he was looking handsome. We left in half an hour, and it took us one hour to reach. Sabrina was excited when she saw us. I was seeing them after like two months. A delicious aroma engulfed the whole house. Lilly hugged me, and I hugged her back.
“It smells delicious. What is he cooking?” I told her after breaking the hug. She laughed while looking at me.
“You have to ask him that. Your dad has locked himself in the kitchen and has not been letting any of us enter," she said with a smile, and I smiled back with a nod.
“I will let him know you are here,” Sabrina said and ran to the kitchen. I smiled looking at her.
“Come inside,” Lily invited us, and we all walked to the living room.
“How have you both been doing?” she asked once we settled on the couch.
“Great,” I answered. It reminded me of my pregnancy. I have to tell them maybe after dinner.
“You have not even come to see your father. He doesn't say, but it makes him happy when you come here,” she said, and I smiled back faintly. I had stopped coming here after Dad recovered and started to go to the office. Things were a little better between us, but it will take more time for us to be on the same page.
“She wanted to, but she has become very busy after a successful Paris fashion show,” Erick answered for me while holding my hand. I smiled looking at him.
“I understand,” Lily said with a smile, looking at both of us with an adoring look in her eyes.
“Finally, dinner is ready,” Sabrina announced, and Dad walked with her into the living room.
“I will ask helpers to bring the food to the table,” Lily said while standing up. Dad excused himself to get changed into fresh clothes. Now we were all sitting in our seats. The delicious aroma lingered in the air.
“So, Dad, what's for dinner?” I asked because my stomach grumbled in hunger.
“Yes, Dad, please cut the suspense and tell us,” Sabrina said with a curious look in her eyes. He chuckled looking at her.
“Lamb chops with sauce, mashed potatoes, and salad,” he said with a smile and my mouth watered. Suddenly I was excited to eat food, forgetting about my stomach pain. Erick has brought my medicine with him. The food was delicious, and Dad was happy after seeing me enjoying it. We had dinner over small talk in which Dad Erick had to talk a little about business.
Why can't they keep business away during dinner?
“I didn't know you cooked so well, Dad,” I told him after drinking some water. I was done eating my food. He laughed when I said that. It felt nice to see him laughing more nowadays.
“It's the only thing I cooked the best. It was the recipe that used to impress your mother,” he said for the first time, talking about her. He doesn't talk about her much.
“Really?” I said with a surprised look on my face, and he nodded his head.
“Take some more," Lily said, looking at my empty plate, but I moved my head.
“I have good herbal tea that we can enjoy after dinner. It also helps in digestion," Lily said to us. Erick took out the medicine and gave it to me.
“Take it,” he whispered while filling my glass of water. I took the medicine and then drank the water.
“What medicine are you taking?” Sabrina asked while looking at us with furrowed brows, noticing us. It made Dad and Lily look at me.
“Everything ok?” Dad asked while looking at me with concerned eyes. I took a deep breath, so it was time to tell them about my pregnancy.
“I'm pregnant,” I told them, feeling that heaviness in my heart. I heard gasps with a couple of whats and whens. Then I was engulfed in a hug by Sabrina and Lily.
“Congratulations,” Lily said with a big smile and then kissed my forehead.
“I can't believe it. I'm going to be an aunt,” Sabrina said excitedly while hugging me from the side. Dad looked so surprised, and he had that same worried look I had seen in Erick's eyes. I smiled at him faintly, and he smiled back. He engulfed me in a hug and kissed my head. He hugged me more tightly but didn’t congratulate me. “I think it's time to eat chocolate cake. We should celebrate this good news with something sweet, Lily said with a big grin on her face. She pulled me to the kitchen. I saw Dad looking at me with that faint smile still on his face. Erick stayed there looking at me. Lily started to brew the herbal tea she was talking about. We were going to enjoy it with cake. Once she was done, we took it to the living room, but she didn't let me carry anything. Dad and Erick were not in the living room.
“Sabrina, go call Dad and Erick. He must be in his study,” she told her, but I stopped her. Instead, I decided to go call them. His study was on the first floor. I stood behind the closed door. I was about to knock on it when I heard my dad shouting, and it made me stop. “I trusted you, Erick. How could you let this happen? I heard my dad say in his angry voice.
“You think I wanted this to happen? I love her too much to lose her,” he replied to my dad. My brows furrowed listening to them.
What are they talking about?
“I don't know about you, but I love my daughter more than myself. I don't know anything. Get her aborted soon. It will be less painful for her,” he said in a firm tone, and the ground beneath my feet was snatched out in just split seconds. They are talking about aborting my baby. My trembling hand immediately moved to my stomach. I immediately opened the door, and it made both of them look at me with wide, shocked eyes. My whole body was trembling at this point.
“W—what did you say?”
