Sabo X Mute! Reader

You giggled inwardly when your phone rang and rolled over your bed to pick it up from the nightstand. It was Sabo again.

"Hey Y/N," he said cheerily and you heard him yell something at his brothers, probably to shut up again. When you were sure he was listening again you knocked on the wooden bedpost so he knee you were listening.

The next hour you listened to his rambles about what they had done in the army again, and you used the Morse code to let him know things about your day too. It was your funny ritual every evening, ever since he went away. People always thought he was your boyfriend when they found out about it, but your relationship wasn't like that.

It was more like.....how to say it, you two lived together, were there for each other in tough situations and occasionally slept with each other, but there was no love between you. Well, at least not from his side, you....that was a whole other story.

"So....." he finally shut up, "are you tired or-"

"Yes Sabo, let your girlfriend rest a bit and come over here," you heard laughing voices from the phone, and also how Sabo tried to mumble something in response to them.

"Sorry Y/N, they're always like that," I don't mind being called your girlfriend, you thought, but just knocked 'ok' in response. "They always jump in conclusions and say stupid stuff. I mean, not that you are stupid, but you don't even like me and it's not real stuff anyways what we have so-"

Sabo's POV

He stared surpisedly at his phone, you had cut his call.

"What the heck?" He rubbed his neck and shrugged, putting the phone away and getting back to poker game he had skipped before to talk to you. He thought you were just tired and not in a mood to listen the rambles of a love-sick guy.

Yes, I said love-sick, because you two had a quite usual fanfiction problem. Both liked the other, but with no chance of showing or telling them.

"Ace," he shook himself out og thoughts, staring at his cards, "if a girl doesn't want to talk to you, what does that mean,"

"If you're talking about Y/N, then I would say nothing,"

"Eh? Why?"

"Sabo, she can't talk,"

"Oh right," he continued fiddling with a card and then looked up again, "still, what does that mean?"

"You pissed her off. Or she wants to-" he was cut off by his phone buzzing. He stared at the phone for a second and then showed the message to Sabo.

Sabo's an idiot. Kick him for me. Sweet dreams and hugs for you and Luffy. Y/N XXX

"What did I do?" Thankfully Ace didn't kick him, not yet.

"You talked with her, what did you say?" Ace grabbed the coins from middle of the table and cheered.

"I said it was so stupid that people always think we're a couple and-" he stared in the distance, mouth hanging open.

"Here ya go. By the way, she wrote me thissssss......" Ace was searching his phone, "some time ago already,"

Yo wimpies! Wassup? Tell me the next time you get a weekend off and we'll go hang out. They just opened an awesome new pizza place on Fourth Wall. :P love ya guys, give Luffy a bear hug from me

Sabo stared at the phone for a second and then that knucklehead finally understood what he had done wrong. You liked him, and he had called an idea of you two as a couple stupid. Too late to change that now.

Okay, not too too late. He called you next day and practically begged you to go out with him. Not as friends anymore, but a proper couple.

Well, I guess knocking on the wood really brings luck.
