"You're staring again," Benn mentioned, waking his silly captain from his thoughts. Shanks sent another glance at the girl who was standing on the deck and laughing alongside the crew.
Her hair shone in the sunligh and skirts were sprawled around her as she sat on the railing, hands moving in the air while explaining some joke. She was just a civilian from another island they had stopped by and used as their base.
But with every trip Shanks gound himself even more distracted, because he was often wondering what Y/N could be doing at the moment. Even though he was tempted to ask her to come along when they left, he found words stuck in his throat, thinking about how dangerous it really was.
There's one more sip in this bottle of wine
A lonely star hangin' in the sky with a wish left on it
And it's yours if you want it
And this wildflower from the neighbor's yard
A real slow dance in the moonlight dark
This hand in my pocket
Oh baby, just call it
Cause it's yours if you want it
"I wasn't staring," he argued although he knew Benn was right. He was kinda staring. And by the grin Y/N sent to him she knew too.
She said something to Mike next to her and walked to upper deck. "What is it?" She asked with a grin. Since she had only come by to bring the supplies from the bar she worked at, she thought he had looked her because he wanted to ask something about those. "Was somethin' wrong with the last patch?"
"No it was fine," great to see you again, how have you been doing, he wanted to ask, but stuttered something else.
"Oh great," she placed her hand on her heart and looked comically relieved, "I was already worried. That reminds me, how did the last trip go?" She leaned against the railing and waited for a glorious story.
And she wasn't disappointed. Although first words came out awkward, Shanks soon gorgot his nervousness and began to describe an attack to the ship of merchant, who had just returned from Laomien, mysterious land of gold.
And every bit of love left in this beat up, banged up, scarred up heart
That's been waitin' on a girl like you
I know it ain't much
But it comes alive with every touch
Every kiss already feels like you own it
Baby it's yours if you want it
"Sounds amazing," Y/N sighed longingly. "I wish I could be a pirate and have adventures like this." While Shanks' heart skipped a beat at it, Benn explained that it was actually much more dangerous than it seeme. Sometimes he really knew what to do, even if Shanks couldn't bring himself to.
Because right now, his heart was telling him to ask her to join with them and helo her become a pirate. But his head wanted to wrap her in a blanket and keep her safe.
"Oh I know it," she shrugged. "And I know my way around swords, so I'm really only waiting for a crew that would take women. You would be surprise how many sailors actually still think that woman on the ship brings bad luck."
Half of this rickety front porch swing
Every word of every song I sing
My jacket when it's cold
Oh baby, don't you know
You've got a place to lay your head
On the other side of my empty bed
And it's just made for fallin'
And it's yours if you want it
It's yours if you want it
"You can come with us," Shanks bit his tongue, but he couldn't take the words back anymore. Especially after he saw how ger face lit up at them.
"Really?" She jumped up excitedly, barely believing her ears.
"Um, sure," he was so going to regret this. "If you're definitely sure, I mean."
"Of course I am, when are you taking off?" Y/N looked back to the town, indicating that she'd like to go and grab few things from there.

"Somewhere afternoonish," Benn shrugged and Y/N gave them both quick hug and promised to be back by then. She bolted off to the town, probably to get her things.
"Shut up," said red-faced Shanks to Benn who was grinning smugly.
"I didn't say anything," Benn shrugged innocently and started to go downstairs to see if they had a hammock to spare for the new crewmate.
"Don't care, shut up," Shanks looked grim. "I can feel you judging me and I don't like it."
It's yours if you want it
By the afternoon Y/N was back on the ship, small bag over her shoulder and two cutlasses tucked between her belt. She looked every inch a pirate.
Benn showed her the inside of the ship where she could put her things down and where she would sleep. Every moment her heart fluttered bit faster and she couldn't believe it was really happening.
Every dollar, every dime, every drop of rain, every single thing I could beg, steal, or borrow
Every yesterday and tomorrow
Well every grain of sand on the beach
Every blade of grass under our feet
Baby your name is written on it
And it's yours if you want it
Up on the deck Shanks was shouting the crew orders to get the sails up and ship sailing. He couldn't shake the feeling he was somehow kidnapping Y/N and she would come any moment and tell him she wanted to go back home.
Instead when she got on the deck the first thing she did was to run to Mike and help him with the sails. She used to help a lot around on the fishing boats in the town, so she knew what to do.
Sea smelled like salt and seaweed and waves sprayed water on her skin. She hadn't felt so free... in a very long time, if ever at all.

It took Y/N only few days to get to know everyone on the ship, and also win their hearts. Or piss them off completely.
The pirate king had died only recently so she heard many stories from the men, why they had come to the sea. Mainly it was for the riches. Sometimes it was to escape, but they all sounded alike. The Great Pirate Era after all.
"Why did you become a pirate, cap?" She asked one night when almost everyone else had gone to sleep and only the night watch, Shanks and her were still awake.
She was laying on the railing and staring lazily at the stars. There was a bit too much rum.in her, and it made her feel dizzy. Dizzy enough to ask things like that honestly.
Shanks looked at the sea for a moment and shrugged. "Never wanted anything else, sea was
calling me."
"Hmmmmm," she hummed and turned a bit so she could look him in the eye. "And why did you let me come along now? I know you didn't need a new deckhand."
He just stared at the ocean for a moment and smiled.
"Because it called you too. And I'm really bad at saying no to those calls."
