GreenR: I listened to a lot of sad love songs while writing this, so it came out kinda...

Law: just kill me now. I can't listen to "I was born to make you happy" again.

Greenr: that's because you don't have feelings. *turns music louder* and you wouldn't recognise a good song if it hit you over the head with a shovel.

Law: depending on how strong the hit was I could suffer memory loss and then I wouldn't recognise anything.

GreenR: *unsheats the mighty shovel* it's almsot too tempting...

You loaded your gun expertly and rose from your seat. Air smelled of fire and burning flesh. It was terrible and made your eyes prickly. You started to climb the ladder to get off the submarine but before you could, someone catched your hand. You looked back.

"Law, what is it?"

"Don't go," he was going to go there. You had to. There wasn't a choice.

"I can't," you whispered. "My brother is there." Ace had been captured weeks ago.

"At least let me come with you," you raised a hand and cupped his cheek. He was frowning again. How terrible.

"You'll get wrinkles if you keep that up," you flicked his forehead and raced up the ladder. As soon as you opened the hatch, rotten smell became times worse.

Grimacing, you hauled yourself up and ran over the battlefield. Searching. Finally, you saw them. Two of your brothers. On the ground.

Luffy was trying to untie Ace. The magma  was crashing down at both of them. They were already covered in scorch marks and burns. No.

Your feet ached and so did your heart. You weren't going to reach them in time. You couldn't protect them. No. You could, you thought and forced your feet to move faster, shooting marine who was attcking them.

You pushed fighters out of your way and screamed. From what you saw the bullets didn't do shit to him and he was going to hit your little brother any moment. You were already closer. You could do it.

You leaped.

Pain was terrible. The hotness of the fist ripped through your flesh so quickly you couldn't even scream. Your brothers fell down from the impact of the crash. As soon as they got up they tried to get to you.

"Go, jackasses," you coughed a bit. "Run! They are coming. Take Ace away..." you coughed again and this time something red splattered on your chin.

Luffy was  screaming and trying to get to you, tears streaming down his face. Ace just looked at you. Why had you done it? He didn't deserve to live. Why?

"I love you," you whispered and tried to smile, teeth coloured with blood. To your relief you saw their crewmates dragging them to safety. At least they had working braincells in their heads. Good. Those idiots will be safe with friends like this.

It had become quieter around you. Weird. It hurt so much you wanted to scream but you were too tired. You sighed and opened your eyes again.

Sky was so beautiful. There was sun and clouds. And when looked hard enough you could see the moon. Pretty. You always hoped it would happen under free sky.

Someone lifted you up from ground and you coughed in pain. Looked around. Law. What was he doing here? It wasn't safe here. He had to go away, now! You tried to tell him that but it only came out as more coughing.

"Shh, don't talk," he whispered and helped you sit a bit. It hurt but you could take it. "Please don't die," tears were dripping down his face and landed on your skin. "Please."

"Stupid..." you coughed and smiled. "If I died.....who would..  take care of your...sorry ass...?"

"No one," you forced tourself to concentrate on his face but it was already becoming blurry around the edges.

"I promise.. I'll be back...soon," you managed to move your hand a bit. He understood and took it in his. Even he knew a hopeless case when he saw one. There was no saving you.

"So... you promise me...something too... " another ragged breath. It was slipping away already. No. Concentrate.

"Be...happy," you spluttered. No. There was still more to say. It can't end yet. You fought back against the darkness and concentrated on pain. It was the only thing still keeping you awake.

"And smile...for me...I'll be back...before you even notice...anything," breath. Concentrate. You gripped his hand with what strenght you had left.

"But don't wait....live..."

"I love you," he said when he saw your eyes closing again. "Please. I'll do anything. Come back."

"Smile," you whispered. "I so...love your...smile," and you were gone.

"No," he cried and hugged you close. Rest of the crew had come out too. They were covered in injuries from fight. Some of them lowered their heads in sadness. Some wiped tears from their eyes.

"Goodbye," someone whispered and soon everyone repeated. Goodbye Y/n L/n.

They had to drag their captain away. If he had gotten to choose he would have stayed there. They took your body as well. Last moment of your life was still frozen on it's face. A smile. Peaceful one.

They buried your body at the island far away from Marineford. Law was forced to push away his feelings and help his crew. He could't smile yet, but he didn't cry anymore. In fact, it seemed he had lost all the feelings he had.

He mourned. And then learned to act. Act happy. Act sad. He tried to smile a lot. He promised after all. And he waited. You didn't come.

But you promised.

And if he he knew one thing, he knew you kept your promises.

Later

You hurried out of the bus, afraid. You werw going to be late for school again. How was it possible. You waked up two hours earlier than you were supposed to. And still you were late.

You sped down the street, dodging between people. It was still morning. How could there be so many people? Weird.

You crashed into someone and knocked them down. Dammit, that was really the last thing you wanted to happen.

"Sorry," you said and offered the guy a hand to help him up.

"No it's-" he stared at your face and whatever he wanted to say died on his lips. That was weird. Did you have something between your teeth? You just had known that salad for breakfast was bad idea.

"Sorry," you repeated and helped him up. "Wait. Do I know you?" Something hurt in the back of your neck. There really was something about him. You knew him. And at the same time you could swear you had never seen him before.

"I don't think so," he wasn't sure. "Uh, sorry," he finally laughed. "That must have come out really weird. I'm Law."

"Y/n, nice to meet you," you smiled back and looked at your watch. "Oh crap I'm late for school."

"You do know it's Saturday, right?"
