You breathed in and out slowly, your body levitating in a middle of a sacred lake. Your legs were crossed and hands moving slowly, drawing out symbols which made the water rise and model itself into complex shapes.
Then a rustling of the leaves and cracking of the branches could be heard and you opened one eye slightly, noticing few lowly villageman. They didn't dare to move closer to the lake while you meditated and you didn't bother to give them any attention. In the end, they were just few lowly humans, nothing special.
One of them coughed to get your attention, and the water dragon you controlled flew towards him, making the man scramble away in fear.
"What do you want?" Your melodic voice was full of unsaid threats and pain, the oter man shivered in their sound.
"P-pirates, my lady," man stuttered, begging you on his knees, "they are attacking our village, please help us," he sobbed when your arms flunged down and water fell back to lake, frozing it into calm mirror within a heartbeat.
"And why should I do that?" Your voice had a small greedy note in it, only the most attentive people would have noticed. But you were a goddess, for fuck's sake! If you didn't get few extra prayers and offerings for all the work you did, why bother helping those lowlives? Few humans here or there, heavens know they breed fast enough to fill the empty spot left of those who die.
"Please, they talked about coming to your lake too, milady, for the treasure," you almost sighed very in a ungodly manner. Why were people always after money and riches?
"Fine, I'll come," you flied forwards until your legs almost touched the ground, "show the way," when man turned and hobbled forward you sent a longing stare to your lake. You rarely left the place, since it was the last thing you had of your husband. Memento, of how different gods and humans actually are.
The village was exactly as you thought. Close to beach, houses made of branches and mud, dirty children running in the streets, their mothers yelling them orders.
It isn't actually so awful, you admitted, beach was pretty, and forest was close. Maybe it was time to find new believers to yourself. Those people would be fine.
The man guided you to the center of the village, where the head of the clan was talking to his colorfully dressed warriors, readying for battle.
"My lady," they felled to their knees and they saw you, and you took a moment to enjoy the praise, before telling them to get up.
"I came because I was told you were in danger," you took few steps forward, seemingly ignoring everyone arond you, swirling your long hair between your fingers, "that you needed my help,"
"Yes my lady, if you would be so kind," chief bowed again.
"Oh I am not kind," you batted your eyelashes, "you should know, all magic comes with a price, especially mine," the men in front of yoy paled, women rushed their children inside, afraid of the sudden change of aura around you.
"What-what would like as a price, my lady?" Chief's voice trembled and you had to admit he was quite brave. In the past there were even many of the gods who couldn't look you in the eye without fear.
