You frowned grimly as you watched you crew slowly dissolve and walk away from captain, shame written on their faces. You couldn't really blame them for that. Whitebeard pirates were one hell of a scary group, and if they told to pirates to leave, they left. Apart from yout captain of course. And you.

"Aren't ya going to leave?" Man with punk blue hair asked. Frown froze to your face.

"And leave my captain? Never," Ace looked at you sadly. Damn,  he almost wanted you to leave. You were barely a proper pirate, those guys would rip you to pieces and and eat for breakfast.

"He ain't the captain anymore sweetheart," man from before chuckled. "Now he's just part of the crew."

"Screw you, that doesn't mean I'm going to leave," well that got him silent. Maybe that wasn't a good thing. "If I promised to stay with him I meant it. Or do you insult me by saying I should go back from my word?" More silence. Promises meant something to that bundle of scoundrels. After all, what is a man -or woman-  if you can't trust them to keep their promises.

"Very well, little hellhound," you felt deeply offended that he had brought your height to this matter and silently flexed yourself to look even bit taller. "Guess the famous Firefist only gathered true fire for his crew."

"Thank you for the compliment," although it isn't exactly correct. You felt the power of your Devil Fruit rising up and struggled to contain it.

"You're welcome...sister," the name seemed very weird but you had decided to stay so you were also part of the crew now. Part of that ruthless family.

Blue haired man left and you felt the urge to poke your tongue out at his back. Instead you walked over to where Ace was standing. There was something weird about him right now. But then again, he had lost almost his whole crew only hours ago. They may have left only now but they were lost even before that.

Later

You watched emotionlessly as your former captain was almost flunged to the water and how the chicken-dude had to fly and pick him out again before he drowned. Ace had unsuccesfully tried to kill the new captain for revenge, so far nothing he tried had worked.

Even against your better judgement, you couldn't help but to watch that attempt of assassination with only mild feeling. You started to like that ship and crew. They weren't absolute shitheads like you had thought before. Well, some of them were, but others were nice.

You went to the wet heap of near-drowned human that chicken-dude had dropped on the deck. Now that he was your crewmate you probably shouldn't call him chicken though. Wasn't his name something with M? Mark? Mario? Macarena? Marcus? The last one seemed close but not really.

You sat down next to Ace and gave him a sad look. Only answer you got was a deep frown and a gruff huff.

"Maybe it's time to give up on the killing thing," you suggested and looked as he spit out a goldfish. You picked the fish up and flunged over your shoulder into water where it swam confusedly as far from the ship as it could. "You know, try to make best of staying at the ship."

You had heard the chicken-guy talk to him earlier about this ship being a home and them being a big family. Despite his hatred you knew Ace was warming up to the bunch. They really were quite nice.

He groaned again and put his head in your lap. You scrunched your nose inwardly when you felt water from his hair and skin damping your clothes and making your leg feel bit numb.

"I need love and affection," he stated. You rolled you eyes and petted his head. "Thanks."

"No problem," you couldn't feel your fingers. "But promise you would try to like it here."

"Kay," he mumbled. But the sound drowned into despicable laughter you heard from above. You didn't even have time to look around when Blackbeard jumped down from the ropes and loomed at the pair of you amusedly.

"What a piece of useless human," he roared and you gritted your teeth, already hating what would come out between these dirty teeth next. "Are you really so spineless you crawl back to that woman every time something happens?!" You felt Ace tense a bit  and you knew what would happen next. Already his skin was almost dry and getting warmer with every second the hate burned brighter.

He stood up, very calm in appearance and offered you a hand, helping you to stand as well. He didn't let go after that though, but rather gripped your hand tighter, letting you know that this would probably lead to a fight.

"Really?" Blackbeard cackled. "You can't even say a word without holding your nanny's hand!" By now the noisy insults had attracted some attention from the others in the crew and they were either looking or walking closer. From the corner of your eye you saw the chicken looking uninterestedly at what you would do next.

You leaned closer to Ace's ear and whispered few words. He thought for a moment and  the  nodded. If it led to a fight,  this would certainly prove useful.

"What, aren't you going to answer?"

"Wait, you wanted an answer?" You pretended to be surprised. "And here I was, thinking you could carry the conversation out very well yourself."

"I didn' ask anything from you, tiny," your eyes turned hot with anger at the nickname crew had given you some time ago due to your petite built. "Well, are you goi g to let the girl talk for you?" Again he turned to Ace who simply sighed.

"Why not? She knows a lot more insults than I do," he leaned against the railing and looked at you. "What was the one you told me about the other day? With dogs?"

"Oh you mean 'brainlessly barking son of a three legged dog'," you smiled smugly at the Blackbeard's face which was turning red with anger.

"That's the one," he turned to angry pirate, whose response had been suffocated by snorts of laugh from the crew. "I'd be careful if I was you," he warned Blackbeard, face serious. "Y/N is so smart it's almost scary. And she has bit of a sadistic sense of humor when you piss he off." You played an innocent face.

"Okay, you're asking for a fight, punks," he added, showing that he meant both of you. And then he charged at you, pulling out his three-bladed weapon.

Luckily the blade only hit the railing because you managed to pull Ace out of the way. With gentle nod he told you that it was time to start a plan you had suggested earlier. You let the locks you ha set to your power go.

You fell to the deck on all fours, bones cracking as they changed shape and grew larger until your shape could be described as 'dog' but not very detailedly. Instead of fur you had slick reddish purple skin and sharp scales covering it loosely. Your face grew longer until it reminded of wolf's and mouth filled with sharp fangs.

You heard some 'wows' from the crowd and bared your teeth even more. Ace grinned, knowing how little people would expect such transformation from you and how it shook the ground they stood on. Even Blackbeard looked little unsure before charging at you again.

You took a step aside and when he started to pass you, you bit tightly into his hand, making him drop one of the weapons. At the smell of fire you moved back a step and looked satisfiedly how the evil little man was grilled inside a fire ball.

It was always like this. People underestimated the pair of you because they assumed you were weak and just two cocky punks. Ha, joke's on them. At least now. At the beginning you spent most of the time tripping over each other's feet and falling over. Plus transforming used to make you so sick you puked your guts out every time.

Ace pulled the fire back until there was  bits of charred skin to be seen under the ashy clothes. Just because you wanted to be petty you went and bit the jackass' ear. Here's a little fact: hellhound has a poison of it's own, so if it's bite isn't treated within minutes the infection can be bad as hell.

You turned back to human and high fived grinning Ace. Humans, they really need to win sometimes, you rolled your eyes.

"Still wanna fight?"
