Loki had informed Odin of the coming attack, they had been preparing for war ever since loki had been brought home, but now that they knew Embrey's army was coming in two days, everyone was training harder and longer everyday. Asgard's forces were stronger than most, and larger, but there was no getting around the fear of defeat. It was now the night before, and Odin had ordered Eira to come to the throne room. As she walked down the halls that seems to never end, she thought about what he could want, and she was hoping there wasn't more trouble. She entered the throne room and knelt before the king.
"You commanded my presence" she said, he gestured for her to stand, and she did so.
"Send him in" Odin called to the guards. Immediately after, a young man walked in, surrounded by a few guards.
"This man has come as a messenger from your sister, with a message for you only to see" Odin said, turning toward Eira. She looked at the messenger, he was too young to be a soldier, and was clearly not in association with Embrey, he looked kind and innocent.
"What's your name?" Eira asked him kindly.
"Asmund" he said looking straight forward, not making eye contact with her.
"Where do you live?" She asked, everyone was a bit confused as to what she was trying to do.
"In a small village on Muspelhiem" he said, finding the answer a bit obvious.
"And how did you come to be a messenger of Embrey?" She asked, she was trying to find out why he was there and if he was a threat.
"The queen sent soldiers to my home, gave me this message, and told me to give it to you" he said, in the same straightforward tone.
"What does she say?" Eira asked. Asmund handed her the message, and she read it over.
"She wants to speak with me, before the battle begins tomorrow. She says to come unarmed and alone, and that she will do the same" she said aloud to the king "your highness, I would like to accept her request." She continued. Odin looked at her, a bit surprised that she would want to except.
"I leave this choice to you, lady Eira, but I would strongly advise against it" he told her, she nodded.
"I understand" she said, turning to Asmund."Tell your queen that her request is permissible" she told Asmund, hoping she would be able to talk Embrey out of war. The guards escorted Asmund out of the throne room. Eira left the room to go tell Thor and loki what she was doing, and that she might be able to end this before it starts. It was late and she wanted to get as much rest as she could, but as hard as she tried, all she could do was stare at the ceiling all night waiting or the morning to come, and finally it did.
She must've fallen asleep at some point, because loki had to wake her up to tell her she needed to get ready to meet with Embrey. She quickly got up and got ready, putting on her armor, she wanted to be as safe as she could, she still feared what Embrey could be doing, she didn't know if she was lying about coming alone, she didn't know if she could trust her. She wanted to take weapons, but she knew she couldn't, as much as she wanted to.
"Eira, I don't think this will count as a weapon" loki said, handing her something that looked like a tiny whistle.
"If anything happens, blow into that, and I'll come running" he told her, he looked concerned and almost afraid.
"Thank you" Eira said. She left, and headed to the place where they were going to meet.
