A few days had past since asgard won against the jotuns, a few were taken prisoner, and the rest sent back to jotunhiem so that they could never come back. It was the third night since the battle and there was to be a funeral or all the men who died in defense, loki hadn't seen Eira all day, but they were about to gather to send the solders off to Valhalla, He walked into their room and saw that she was sitting at the railing of the balcony, looking over asgard. "Hey, you alright?" He asked, sitting next to her. She nodded slightly, but he could see the reddens in her eyes and knew she'd been crying.
"What's wrong darling?" He asked.
"So many dead. And for what? War is just so ugly, its so-" she sighed, and he put his arm around her.
"I know. No one likes war, but sometimes we have to fight" he told her.
"I know, I don't think we did anything wrong, I just wish we didn't have to fight. I wish things like this didn't happen" she said, blinking a tear out of her eye. "One of them jumped in front of me. He saw an attack coming and took the fall for me. How can I ever repay that?" She asked, a few more tears slipping down her face. He didn't know what to say. "Who was he?" He asked, thinking maybe she could do something for his family (if he had one) she shrugged.
"I don't know. I never met him before" she said back. There was nothing he could do to help her, there was nothing anyone could do to make this night any less heart breaking. They both stood up, they had to go out now even though she was dreading it. In a short while they were outside in the crowd. Each soldier who'd died was laying in a small boat in the water, they sent them out one at a time so that they could all recognize and respect them individually for what they did for asgard, there was a few guards in charge of shooting the flaming arrows, but if there was a family member or loved one who wanted to take part for someone, it was allowed. The time came for the man who saved Eira, no one stepped up, so the guard was about to shoot.
"Wait" Eira choked, she of course, wanted to do it, to send him off. She raised the bow with the flaming arrow.
her vision was slightly blinded by tears trying to escape, but she blinked them away and released the arrow. she saw the boat go up in flames, and when it came to the edge of the water, his soul travel to Valhalla. He was gone. She stepped back down and loki put a gentle hand on her shoulder, it wasn't the time to start bursting out crying, everyone was trying to hold it together. Thankfully there weren't too many that had died that day, but it seemed to drag on for a long time. Finally it was over, everyone was leaving and going back to their homes, but a young man who had fought came over to loki. "Your highness" he said to get Loki's attention, loki thought he was going to start hammering him on how he should've done better to save more men, but was pleasantly surprised.
"Yes?" He said turning to face the man, who wasn't any older than him.
"I wanted to thank you. You brought the families into the palace during the battle, and it saved my wife and baby" he told him, loki tried to force a smile.
"You have a child and wife?" He asked. "Well, she gave birth during the fight" he told him. "And, if it's alright with you, I'd like permission to name her after your wife. I know she lost her child a few months back, and would like to honor her in ours" he requested. Of course loki was moved, He nodded.
"Of course you may" he said, and the man bowed and left. After a little while everyone was gone and loki and Eira went back to their room, they both wanted to go to sleep, but were also a bit restless. After Eira changed her clothes she sat down in the bed waiting for loki, he came and sat next to her, letting her lean her head on his shoulder.
"Can I tell you something?" He asked, putting his arm around Her shoulders.
"Of course" she said softly.
"Father was talking I me today, he said I led the people in battle very well. He said he wanted to make me king" he told her, she sat up and looked at him.
"Really?" She asked a she sniffed a little.
"Well I've always known I was going to ever since Thor said he couldn't. But father told me that he was going to start making plans for my coronation" he told her. She smiled slightly.
"You'll be a great king" she said sweetly. He smiled back.
"I hope so" he said.
" I've always known you'd be a great leader. You're so determined. And smart" she said back. "I love you" he said as he kissed the top of her head.
"I love you too" she said back. They both laid down in bed, he held her closely and they both fell asleep
