Loki woke up the next morning and felt something cold on his eye, at first he thought maybe he only dreamt their escape and they were still on Jotunhiem, but then the feeling disappeared from his eye, and in a moment had moved to his ankle, the one he'd injured.
'What in the nine realms...' He thought, he was a little afraid to open his eyes cause he had no idea what was going on, but he opened them and saw Eira sitting at the foot of the bed, with her hand to his ankle.
"What are you doing?" He asked sleepily, she removed her hand immediately.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think you'd mind, your ankle was pretty swollen so I was just trying to help" she answered, he smiled a little.
"I don't mind, I was just confused. And why are you taking care of /me/? I should be taking care of /you/" he told her.
"Well that would be a pretty one sided relationship, don't you think? Did I never take care of you before I lost my memory?" She asked, she seemed slightly defensive, maybe even a time bit offended. "You always took care of me when I needed it. And I'm abundantly happy to see you haven't changed" he said back. "Good, then lay back down and let me finish" she said a little jokingly with a smile.
"As you wish my ice queen" he said as he laid down again.
"What did you call me?" She asked. "Oh, I just said 'my ice queen', why?" He asked. She stared for a moment, clearly in deep thought.
"I thought- didn't you-" she started, but then shook her head to snap herself out of it. "Never mind, I'm just imagining things" she said as she continued to take care of his ankle, and other bruises that were pretty bad.
"No no no, think about it, what were you thinking when I said that?" He asked, he felt like he'd cracked the surface and her mind could be opening again.
"I though I'd head that name before, I thought I remembered someone calling me that before but- but you haven't called me that, and I haven't spoken to anyone else" she said.
"You said that. Try to remember, it was when you and Thor had rescued me from Muspelhiem, and I was laying in bed and I told you to hurry back cause I was cold,
and you made a remark like 'says the jotun to the ice queen'" he told her, she just kept staring, her eyes shot to the window and she stood up, and walked over to it.
"Why were you on muspelhiem?" She asked.
"Your sister had kidnapped me, she wanted to make you suffer because she blamed you for your parents leaving when you were young" He told her, she started to breath a little harder, and she walked back and sat next to him.
"Embrey?" She asked, his face lit up.
"Yes! Yes that was her name" he said quickly.
"Was I ever a fugitive?" She asked, her breathing growing harder, it was just like when she started to remember on jotunhiem.
"Yes, and then you were going to be executed, so I broke you out of prison. And then later I comforted you when you dreamt of me getting attacked on alfhiem" he told her, trying to think of important moments. she started to look around, her chest heaving and her face was filling with terror as her mind started to fill with memories of her past. she brought her fists to her head.
"What is happening?!" She screamed.
"It's okay, you're just remembering" he told her, putting his hands on her shoulders. "Remember when i showed you how to control your power? I told you it was just a reaction to strong emotion" he said as He moved one hand to her side where she'd been stabbed.
"And The first time I told you I loved you was when you were stabbed, I thought you were going to die and I told you I loved you" he told her, looking straight into her eyes. She let out a long, loud scream, she fell forward on top of loki, her body jerking around as she screamed, and ice spreading across the room.
he tried to call for help, but she was louder than he was, he turned her onto her back.
"Eira, it's okay! It's alright!" He yelled, trying to get her to focus on him, but her eyes were wandering around the room. She rolled over and grabbed tightly onto the blanket, screaming into it, loki noticed that she was jerking as if someone was hitting her. Finally someone heard her screaming, three healers came rushing in and over to her.
They forced her back onto her back so they could look at her, her eyes were red from crying and tears were pouring down her face, her screams shifted into crying, she looked like she was in great pain. she reached out and grabbed onto loki.
"What do we do?" He asked the healers, they were trying to figure out what was wrong.
"Tell her about the day you proposed" Reva said, loki was confused, but did he as was told. He told her about the dress and necklace he gave her, he told her how he did it on her birthday, he told what he said, he told her every detail he could remember while she rested her head on his lap.bjer breathing calmed down and she looked up at him.
"Loki" she chocked through her tears as her eyes closed and her body went limp. He shook her shoulders a little aggressively, but got no response.
"Eira!" He yelled, Reva came over and put her hand on Eira's neck.
"She's still alive, but we need to take her to the healing room" she said, they did so and a soon as they got there they started to try and figure out what happened. "Your highness-" one of them started.
"Please, my name is loki" he said before she could finish.
"Loki" she continued "I think I know why she went crazy" she told him.
"Well why?" He asked. "Well, it's impossible to completely erase something from a persons mind. what the jotuns did, was they put up a wall of sorts, they blocked off the part of her mind that had memories of you, her past, most everything. When you started to remind her of significant things in her life, it was like you were breaking down that wall, so when you broke it down completely, all of her memories, every moment she ever lived flooded her mind all at once" she explained.
"Which is enough to drive anyone crazy" loki said mostly to himself.
"And she had a very painful past. she just relived every moment of misery, every feeling of pain she'd ever experienced within one minute. If you hadn't given her a good memory to focus on, she probably would've died" she continued, loki couldn't think what it must've felt like for her, to have every moment of pain, physical and emotional, piled on top I each other all at once must be torture. 'Well now she remembers, and she's alive' he told himself, trying to focus on that.
