The seven months past, and it was now the twenty first of November, the day designated to be Loki's coronation. Even though it had been almost a year since Eira died, not a day went by that he didn't think of her. He was standing in his room, waiting for it to be time or him to go out into the crowds of people to be crowned king. He was happy beyond belief, but at the same time he was sad, sad that he'd be king alone instead of with Eira by his side. He looked at the mantle with the still unopened note on it. When Odin told him he wanted to plan another coronation, loki decided he'd open the note that night. He took a deep breath and picked it up, his hands were shaking slightly as he broke the wax seal that was keeping it closed. Just the sight of her hand writing made him feel her again. He could almost hear her voice as he read: /My dearest loki,
If you're reading this it means I'm no longer with you, I don't know how I left, and I don't know if I was able to tell you before, but I want you to know that I love you. I know Ive said that a thousand times in passing, but my heart was yours alone, you were the only man Who ever made me smile for no reason, or loose my thought in your eyes. You meant the world to me, and I'm glad I left before you did because I don't want to live without you. Yes, I wish we could've had more time together, yes I wish we could've done more before I left, but I don't ever want you to blame yourself for my passing. You are a good man loki, You told me about the times when you made bad choices, but that's not the man I knew. The man I knew was kind and compassionate, and did what he could to protect asgard. You helped me when I needed it, and you saved my life even when it risked your own. I don't know how you made such a turn in only a few short years, but somehow you did, and I'm so blessed to call you mine. The time I was able to have with you was the most wonderful time in my life, you have me something to live for, you made me happy even when I was sad, you comforted me when I was afraid,
you were always there for me, always. I want you to do me a favor my love, one last thing I want you to do for me: live. That's all, please don't spend you life wishing you could've saved mine, whatever happened I know there's nothing you could've done to prevent it, if there was, you would've done it. I hope you live a long and happy life, I love you and never want you to be hurt.
One last thing I want you to know; you're a hero. what you did in the past doesn't matter to me, you've changed and I want to look at what you are, not what you were. people may call you a villain, but I want you to know that you have always been, and always will be my greatest hero. I love you my prince. -Eira/
He wiped up the few tears that slipped from his eyes as he read it, he felt like he had a little bit of her left with him. He heard a knock on the door and quickly closed it back up and put it back on the mantle, a few more tears falling from his eyes.
"Come in" he said, his voice softer than he wanted it to be. A servant came in with his helmet in hand, he bowed and handed it to loki.
"Thank you" loki said, the servant nodded and left. Loki left this room and walked down the hall, Thor was waiting there for him. it felt funny, he remembered when it was the other way around, and he was waiting for Thor to be crowned king. "Nice horns" Thor said sarcastically when loki came and stood next to him. Loki laughed at Thor's remark.
"Nice feathers" he said back, equally sarcastic.
"Nervous?" Thor asked.
"Yes" loki replied simply.
"Don't be. You'll make a great king" Thor said encouragingly. "How do you know?" Loki asked, letting his insecurity show a little.
"You've already proved it." He said back. "Listen" he said, loki stood quiet for a moment and could hear the shouting of the people in the crowds.
"You're the second son. You're not even blood related to the king. And you've committed multiple crimes against the crown" Thor said, loki looked a little confused.
"Thank you?" He said, a little unsure what the point of that was.
"And they still are shouting for you to be crowned" Thor added "I was going to be king because I was the heir. You are being crowned king because you're worthy" he continued, loki smiled and nodded. "Thank you" loki said, feeling more confident in what he was doing. "You should go though, it's almost time" he added, Thor nodded and left, leaving loki to his own thoughts. In a few minutes it was time for him enter the throne room. He opened the doors and there was the crowd of people shouting for him, cheering his name, applauding the king to be. He walked down the aisle, smiling and stirring up the crowd even more. He came to the end and Odin stood up, he touched the ground with gungnir and the loud booming sound echoed through te room, everyone was quiet and everything Was still. Loki knelt down in front of Odin, the stillness and the silence made his heart race.
'This is really happening, I'm really about to be king' he thought to himself. Odin started to speak. "Today I entrust you with the greatest honor in all the nine realms. The sacred throne of asgard. I have sacrificed much to achieve peace. So, too, must a new generation to maintain that peace." Odin continued to speak about how he must be a responsible leader, not to take advantage of the blessings he has, and to think of the people above himself. "Do you swear to guard the nine realms?" He asked.
"I swear" loki spoke clearly.
"And do you swear to preserve the peace?" Odin asked again.
"I swear" loki answered, a little more powerfully.
"Do you swear to cast aside all selfish ambition, and to pelage yourself only to the good of all the realms?" He asked. Loki thought for a moment, this would be the last thing he ever did as the prince, after he spoke these two words he'd be king, he'd be leaving behind his old life, the life he had with Eira, the life he had with frigga, it would all be a memory, he would be shutting the door on that life, and opening up to a new one.
"I swear!" He yelled, loud enough for anyone to hear. "Then on this day, I, Odin all father, proclaim you king of asgard" as soon as he finished his sentence the crowd started cheering and shouting again, a new king was crowned, a beloved king who everyone wanted to follow. Loki stood up, Odin came down and handed gungnir to him, he walked up the few steps to the throne and turned to face the people of asgard, no longer as a prince, but as their king. As he stood there with the people looking to him, holding gungnir in hand, he was thinking of only one thing, he could hear Eira saying him: 'people may call you a villain, but I want you to know that you have always been, and always will be my greatest hero.' and it made all doubt and anxiety melt away. =****=
For the rest of his life loki protected asgard and the people of the realm, he did everything he could to lead with a steady head, he was far from perfect, as anyone would be, but he learned to humble himself enough to seek help from his brother and the people around him, he did his best to be a just, yet kind king. Whenever he went to his room he thought of Eira though, he could almost see her sitting there in his closet, hiding from the king, the scared girl he met that day, though she was physically gone, was still helping him on a daily basis, because anytime he felt discouraged he'd open the note and read the last few lines:
"people may call you a villain, but I want you to know that you have always been, and always will be my greatest hero"
