"Eira, wake up. Come on, wake up" loki whispered while shaking her shoulders, her eyes fluttered open to see loki, standing over her. It was the middle of the night, and the first peaceful sleep she'd had since frigga had been born a week before. "Why, what's wrong?" She groaned, slowly waking up.
"You need to get up. You need to get up right now, get your armor on" he told her, still in a whisper and occasionally looking over his shoulder as he spoke.
"Loki, what's going on?" She asked sitting up, her voice dry and raspy from sleep. "I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the jotuns are making a move" he told her in a hurry. She sat up quickly and her eyes shot to friggas crib.
"Loki where's frigga?" She asked in a panic, seeing that frigga wasn't there.
"She's fine. Thor and Afya have her in my old bedroom, she'll be fine" he told her. She quickly got out of bed and into her armor as loki instructed. They both left and were quietly walking around the palace. "Loki what are we doing?" She asked in a whisper, the palace was more quiet than she'd ever heard, it was the middle of the night and everyone was asleep.
"I think the frost giants are here" he said back.
"Why?" She asked, thinking loki was probably just imagining things.
"I thought I heard someone sneaking around, so i got up to see who it was and I found thor, he said he heard it too." He told her, still speaking softly. "So we took a look around and I found this" he added, handing her a piece of armor.
"Is this from Jotunhiem?" She asked, starting to understand.
"Yes, and-" he stopped mid-sentence and froze in his tracks.
"Do you hear that?" He asked in an even softer whisper. She felt her heart beating faster, she looked at the ground and she could make out the reflection of a person standing right behind them. She tapped Loki's arm with her hand, still staring at the reflection in the ground, he could tell where her eyes were and he saw it to. They both turned around and saw the frost giant hiding behind a wall, thankfully they both had weapons and the jotun didn't know they'd seen himbut that didn't at all suppress their nervousness.
"Eira, go sound the alarm" he told her, his voice so quiet she could barely hear it.
"But you need help" she said in an equally quiet tone.
"I can take him, but he's not alone and everyone is sleeping, we need to have everyone ready for a fight. Go now" he told her, she knew he was right. Eira quietly slipped away and loki went to attack the jotun. He stepped around the corner and tried to stab him, but he was able to block it. Loki tried to distract him with illusions but it didn't work, he somehow was able to know who was the real loki. after a minute, loki heard the sound of the alarm and he knew Eira had made it there. In no time the palace was in an uproar, all the warriors were up and ready to fight, and more jotuns had apparently been waiting, because they all emerged from their hiding places. There were only a few of them, but they still put up quite a fight. The asgardian warriors were falling just like the jotuns, it seemed so sudden and unexpected that it almost seemed like it couldn't be real. In a short time all the jotuns were laying on the ground, dead. Loki and Eira looked at each other smiling at their success.
"What do you think they wante-" loki started, but stopped before he finished, realizing that the fight was only a distraction ad they'd galled for it. "Frigga" he said to Eira, she realized they'd been played as well and they both ran as fast as they could to where Thor and Afya were protecting frigga. They burst into the room and saw that Afya and frigga weren't there, and Thor was laying on the ground, in a pool of blood, with a knife in his chest. They ran over to Thor to see if he was still alive, but they couldn't tell. Loki called the guards, then he realized that Frigga was gone.
"It's okay, you stay here with him, I'll go find frigga" Eira said, and before Loki could protest she had run out of the room in search of frigga. The guards came and loki had them bring Thor to the healing room.
They got him there quickly and the healers started to do whatever they could. Looking at him Loki thought he was dead for sure. He'd lost a ton of blood, he had a knife in his chest, and he had no color in his face. He sat down near the wall, trying not to be a distraction. He was just waiting for them to tell him that his brother was dead. After about an hour, loki heard Thor gasping for breath and could see him sitting up. "Oh my- oh my- I thought- I-" loki was trying to speak but couldn't find any words. He walked closer to Thor "I thought you were dead" he finally said.
"Now you know how it feels" Thor said, a little jokingly.
"Well don't ever do that again" loki said back. Thor put his hand on Loki's shoulder.
"Where's frigga and Eira?" Thor asked. Loki felt the blood rush out of his face. He'd forgotten all about Eira, she had gone to find frigga over an hour ago and he was now realizing she still hadn't come back.
