It had been about two days since they discovered Gollum had escaped, and Thor made sure both Loki and Eira had at least one guard with them at all times (unless they were with someone else), Eira wasn't crazy about it, but she just dealt with it. And Loki hated it so much that he would make it next to impossible for them to stick around him. "Loki, what if he's not trying to hurt us? Maybe he just wanted to escape and had no plan to hurt us" Eira said, she was a little curious why nothing had happened yet, yes, it had only been two days, but he escaped /into/ the palace.
"Maybe, but I'm not letting you be alone until we find him, The last time I wasn't careful you got kidnapped" he told her.
"That was one time, and it was understandable, Thor was stabbed" she told him, she knew he always beat himself up over that.
"And it ended with you kidnapped and my daughter murdered" he said, her eyes started to water a little.
"You can't possibly blame yourself for frigga's death" she said, trying not to let a tear slip out.
"Of course I do, I should've protected her, and you. Brynjar never should've even gotten to you two" he said, his own eyes starting to get a little watery. "She should be here with us, she should've been able to live a long life with you and I." He continued, his voice getting a little louder.
"It wasn't your fault, you can't always think that anything bad that happens to me or her is your fault-" she started, but he cut her off.
"Yes I can, in fact I have to. It's my job to protect you and I've failed so many times!" He was almost yelling now.
"And what about me?! I was there, in the room with her and I couldn't save her!" She said back, also almost to the point of yelling.
"You should never have been there alone! I should've been there with you and-" he said but didn't finish. "It doesn't matter now, I just want to protect you as best I can" he said in a normal tone. "You are" she told him. There was a small moment of silence before loki spoke again.
"What did to tell Thor the other day?" He asked,
but it was in a tone that was more like a command for her to tell him.
"What?" She asked.
"You told Thor something, and then he said you were afraid of me" he told her.
"I'm not afraid of you" she told him. "Then why won't you tell me?" He asked, now he just sounded hurt.
"I just can't" she said, but that was by no means a good enough answer.
"Tell me now" he told her, putting his hands on her shoulders, but not really in a loving way. "Loki I-" she started but was cut off by someone shouting for loki.
"Loki! Eira! Come now!" It was Sif. They were both already wearing their armor, so they hurried to where Sif was.
"What is it?" Eira asked.
"They found gollum" she told them, almost before she could finish they were on their way to the soldiers.
"Where is he?" Loki asked one of them.
"We saw him run into the forest. There's already men there looking for him" he told them, so they both grabbed weapons to help find and kill him. They went into the forest and stared the hunt along with the soldiers. They all split up to find him except loki and Eira, who stuck together. "Wait, stop" she whispered, she was so quiet and the only reason he could even hear her was because the forest was dead silent. "What's wrong?" He asked in the same almost silent tone. She didn't reply, she just shot her glances around, looking for whatever created the small sound she heard, they stood back to back so nothing could sneak up on them. "I guess it was nothing" she said, relaxing a bit.
"You know, there's something oddly attractive about the way you-" he stared, but he stopped when they both saw someone start running. They chased after him as quickly as they could, trying not to trip on the branches and rocks. He stopped running and turned around to look at them. Without a doubt, it was gollum. He smiled evilly at them both.
"I'm going to torture him, and then kill you slowly" he said to Eira.
"Don't count on it" she said as she shot an arrow at him, but he was able to get out of the way.
He kept running and they kept chasing him. finally loki saw an opportunity and threw a kind at him, he didn't hit him in the heart, but it got his leg and he stumbled a bit, Eira quickly loaded an arrow and shot at him, it penetrated his heart and they saw him fall backwards, they knew they'd killed him. They walked over to make sure he was really dead, but all of a sudden his body burst into flames, they were both confused before they remembered that he was from muspelhiem, and that could be normal. When the fire died down (which was sudden) they came over to him, and saw only what was left after he burned, they stood there for a moment, not really sure what to say or do.
"There's something oddly attractive about the way I what?" She asked, he smiled a little. "Hunt" he said, finishing the sentence he'd started earlier.
"Loki he's dead. We won" she said, she was having a hard time believing it, she thought it was going to be another long drawn out problem, like all the ones in the past, but it was over now. He hugged her and kissed her forehead.
"Loki, about what I said to Thor-" she started but was stopped my his finger on her lips.
"Tell me when you're ready. I was just mad" he said, she smiled a little.
"You don't think there's anything going on between Thor and I do you?" She asked. He shook his head.
"No, I trust you both" he told her.
"Good, cause there isn't" she said back. And They went back to the palace to tell Thor and the king that gollum was gone
