It was the day of the coronation, everything was crazy, and everyone was busy getting everything ready, Loki was glad to find that Eira was fine when they woke up in the morning, and no one noticed they'd stayed out all night. It was only about an hour before things would begin, and people were already starting to gather even though they weren't allowed into the palace yet. Thor had asked Loki to meet him in the meeting room, Loki had no idea why, but he went anyway.
"What did you need?" He asked as he came into the meeting room where Thor was.
"I know I've tried this before, but I need you to try-" he started, but Loki cut him off.
"If this is about mjölnir, I'm not interested" he said back. "Please just-" thor started again, but loki cut him off the same way.
"I'm not interested" he said a little more strongly.
"The first day Eira was sick, who opened your bedroom door?" Thor asked, loki looked very confused.
"Um, I did, it was jammed and Eira couldn't get it" he said, finding the question a bit random.
"But was it jammed?" Thor asked. Loki didn't say anything for a moment.
"No, it opened easily" he then said. Thor held mjölnir out to him, Loki knew what Thor did, it was making sense.
"I don't want to do this right now" loki said back.
"I put it in front of the door and you opened it, why do you still not want to hold it?" Thor asked.
"Because I'll like it. I'll like the power, I'll like the way it feels, and don't want to fall into that trap again, I don't trust myself with it" he said back, Thor looked a little surprised, it wasn't the response he thought he'd receive.
"But you've changed-" he started.
"Sure, I've changed, but I don't want to taunt myself with it, I don't want to change back" he said, Thor smiled a little and put mjölnir down. "Why are you smiling?" Loki asked.
"I'm proud to call you my bother, and my king" Thor said, loki was a little shocked and didn't know how to reply, of course he was moved, but he didn't know what to say, Thor could see him looking for words and decided to break the silence.
"We should probably get back though, you don't want to miss your own coronation"
he said, trying to change the subject. "Yes, yes we should" loki agreed. They went back into the rest of the palace, Thor went to help with something loki wasn't paying attention to, and he went to see where Eira was. He walked into their room and could hear Eira's voice, along with three or four others, from the bathroom. "No you look stunning!" One of the other voices said, more than likely they were all her maids helping her get ready. "It seemed like a better idea when I decided, I just don't think it's formal enough" he heard Eira protest, he went to see what was going on and found Eira with three maids looking at the dress she was wearing, and fiddling with it. but they were all standing in front of her and he couldn't see.
"Let me have a look" he said, they were all startled and jumped back. "Loki, don't do that" Eira said, catching her breath from the small adrenaline rush. All the maids moved so loki could see her, she was wearing the same dress she wore when they danced (or 'not-danced') for the first time, that night was always significant to them both, she was also wearing the necklace he'd given her that night as well. "I was saying I didn't think it was right for the coronation" she said a little timidly, he just stared blankly.
"Is it that bad?" She asked after an awkward pause. "No. no no no, don't change it, it's perfect" he said smiling at her, she smiled back, feeling relived.
"One thing you do have to change though" he said coming over to her.
"What?" She asked, looking down at herself. He pulled her hair behind her head and held it up.
"Wear your hair up so I can see your shoulders this time" he said with a smirk, she smiled and shook her head a little.
"Alright, I'll put my hair up" she said back. "But go on, get out Of here, I'm not even finished getting dressed and you're making me nervous" she told him. In about an hour everything was ready, people were gathering in the palace to see the coronation, thousands of people all waiting to see the crowning of a new king.
Loki couldn't believe it, to think that only a few years ago people were shouting for him to be executed for his crimes, and now they were all cheering for him to rule them, it made him happy and terrified all at once.
"Eira, come on, it's time" loki said to her, coming back to their room. she was still putting up her hair. It was fine in a curly updo, with a few curls around her face, and a few golden flowers secured in it.
"I'll be right there, you go along" she told him. "I can wait" he said back.
"Loki go, I'll be right along" she insisted with a smile.
"Alright" he said as he left her alone. As soon as he left she pulled out her notebook and finished writing something she'd started a long time ago, she tried to hurry but didn't want the writing to be sloppy, it only took her a few minutes before she was finished, she ripped out the paper from the notebook, folded it in half, and locked it in her drawer. She took a deep breath before she stood up to leave, she was as nervous as loki. "Hello Eira" she heard a voice from behind her, from her window. She felt shivers run up her whole body, it was the voice of a dead man. She slowly turned around to see someone who couldn't be standing there, she didn't understand it, he can't be there. There was only one thought in her mind:
'How can he be here when I saw his body to up in flames?'
